Pikamee Amano (Japanese: 天野ピカミィ) is a Japanese-American former VTuber affiliated with the agency VOMS project as part of its first generation alongside Tomoshika Hikasa and Jitomi Monoe.

Content

Despite her channel being created in February of 2020, her debut stream was uploaded on March 19, 2020. Her first gaming stream was of Octodad. However she is best known for her walkthrough of The Henry Stickmin collection, and it remains her most viewed video. She also loves gacha games despite her poor luck in them. Her other content includes chatting streams, language learning streams, karaoke streams, art streams (which she refers to as "doodling") and film watching and reactions, though most of the latter are reserved for members only. The first film watchlong she hosted was Pokemon: The wish of Jiriachi.

When rewatching her debut stream, Pikamee considered it cringe.

Pikatomo

Pikatomo is a series where she does miscellaneous things, like talking or doing challenges, designed to be a 30 minute to 1 hour short stream for people on lunch breaks (according to Japanese time zones).

Collaborations

Thanks to being fluent in both English and Japanese (to the point she even holds some English only streams), Pikamee is able to collaborate with some of the most prominent English-speaking and Japanese-speaking VTubers. She has played Among Us with several Hololive and Nijisanji VTubers, as well as Aoi Fuji, Artemis of the Blue and Kizuna Ai. She has also played Project Winter and Fall Guys with them too. Her stream of Monster Hunter Rise featured Uto Amatsuka and Pomu Rainpuff of Nijisanji EN has played Granny Simulator with her. Pikamee and Ironmouse once held a chatting stream that was over 2 hours long. She has also played Party Games with girl_dm_, Ironmouse and Rosemi Lovelock. Pikamee once raided Tenma Maemi's stream, and has stated that she finds Phase-Connect's members cute.

Early in Ina'nis Ninomae's streaming career, Pikamee collaborated with her to play Clubhouse 51 games.

She has also played Phasmophobia and Dead Space 2 with Kson and appeared on her news show. The two are close friends and Kson nicknames her "Pikameechi". Later she played Labrynthine with Kson Onair, Shylilly and bao.

Pikamee and Yura have also played Phasmophobia, and Yura was one of the VTubers involved in her ARK:Survival Evolved competition, amongst Kson and several smaller streamers.

Some of her streams feature her real-life friend, Agomee. Not much is known about her apart from her love of liquor and that she asked to be drawn with Joey Wheeler's chin.

Design

Her character designer is Gyari.

Every single VOMS VTuber is based on a Pokemon - Pikamee is based on Pikachu, Tomoshika is based on Charmander, Monoe is based on Magnemite, Ryugon is based on Flygon, and while it hasn't been confirmed which Pokemon Miuneru is based on, some have speculated it to be Poliwhirl, going by the whirls in her character design and white gloves.

Lore

She stated herself to be 5,000,000,000,000 years old in her debut stream. She also used to reside in Virtual Texas as her dad is from Virtual USA and her mom is from Virtual Japan. Before becoming a VTuber she was a professional translator (despite having difficulty reading kanji) and her other jobs were working at fast food chains Subway, Taco Bell, 7-Eleven, as well as a bike rental business, a clothing store, a bar waitress (where she got fired after accidentally serving sake instead of water), an unnamed black company, a car rental company (where she got fired after she crashed a car), and several others.

Controversy

Hogwarts Legacy stream and lolicon allegations

On the February 10, 2023, Pikamee ended her hiatus and tweeted that she was going to play Hogwarts Legacy. This concerned some of her Trans viewers and other Trans creators, as the game was based on the Harry Potter books, whose author JK Rowling actively funding Anti-Trans groups to remove rights for Transgender people.. After the announcement that she was going to play Hogwarts Legacy, many of her viewers went to the the pre-chat of the stream waiting room and flooded it with hateful comments, spam and insults towards Pikamee. As a result, Pikamee took the tweet down, and also deleted the scheduled stream where she said that she was going to play it. She then tweeted "I am just a kettle who wants to play the games. Playing the game doesn't mean I'm supporting something specific. I just want to play the game, that's all". She then went on a hiatus until the beginning of March where she announced her graduation.

On March 7, 2023, Medium released an article titled "Debunking the Pikamee Delusion", in it they stated throughout the following months many reddit users made posts about it and many Youtubers pushed the narrative that "Trans people on Twitter after finding out that Pikamee was going to play Hogwarts Legacy harrased and cyberbullied her into retiring from vtubing", however most videos about the situation don't even show proof of what harrassment she recieved. Pikamee's agency VOMS' representative Gyari stated that the recent drama has nothing at all to do with her retirement and this was already something agreed upon a long time ago. Many are even claiming that her own agency is a liar and that they're trying to “cover it up” in a conspiracy. The article cites a video, which claims that Pikamee was sent death threats on a daily basis, but the person doesn't show a single screenshot of the supposed death threats. A few videos do provide proof, which is a collage of screenshots of alleged harrassment towards Pikamee, however most of the tweets are just talking about Transphobia, Hogwarts Legacy and other Vtubers. Only 4 of the 22 tweets in the screenshot are actually talking about Pikamee. And those tweets are from Troll accounts.

The article also mentions Pikamee's lolicon allegations, and showed tweets from Pikamee talking about sexualizing characters who are 9 to 12 year olds, saying they are the “perfect age,” and the article mentions 2 livestreams from October 2020 where Pikamee stated she had an alt account where she explicitly followed artists who make loli art. In a tweet from June 2020, Pikamee also mentions she bought Comic LO magazines, which is a "lolicon-focused" magazine.

The article states that an anonymous user on 4chan posted a greentext where they psychoanalyzed Pikamee and claimed that she is suffering from PTSD from childhood trauma, and the “harassment” from the “deranged trans people” triggered this PTSD, which lead her to quit. On February 20, this 4chan greentext was shared on Twitter recieving over 1 million views, and for awhile showed up as the “top” result when searching for “pikamee” on the website, which lead most people to believe this was the reason she retired. The article ends with stating that Pikamee has never stated once the real reason for her retirement.

Graduation

On March 1, 2023, Pikamee broke her month long hiatus by thanking her fans for their support and kind words to her while she was gone, she then linked a video where she announced that her activities as a streamer will be suspended on March 31. Shortly afterwards, her agency, VOMS Project, tweeted out an official statement about her graduation. Her reason for this is unknown, but many of her supporters has speculated that this was due to the overwhelming backlash from her haters during the Hogwarts Legacy incident, especially as it was after Pikamee returned from a hiatus due to caring for her sick family.

Pomu Rainpuff stated that prior to the Hogwarts Legacy incident, Pikamee had told her that she had planned to retire. However, kson's statement seemed to imply that the harassment was the main cause. Pikamee also liked multiple tweets on Twitter that directly blamed her harassers on twitter for her decision to graduate.

Partnerships

Amano and her genmates have been interviewed by and collaborated with several brands and companies, notably the Village Vanguard magazine where they appeared in Volumes 72 and 74, as well as the clothing brand Vanquish which also revealed merch based on the trio. They were part of the promotions of Vanquish and Goturn.

She was also part of the VTuber APEX Legends tournament in Team PUI, and represented Team E/ Genki EEEEPpai in the VTuber Fall Guys tournament.

In Kurocon 2020, she was one of the guests of honor and also represented Japan in the AMD streamer challenge 2020.

Following Monoe's retirement, Pikamee and Tomoshika were two of the hosts for the niconico Spring Vtuber Game Festival 2021. They performed live and hald a session at the USAGI Production VirtualReal Best01 release event, even releasing their own song in collaboration with KOTONHOUSE as part of the VirtualReal03 collaboration album by usagipro.

In the game VTuber chips 3, Tomoshika and Pikamee were two of the collectible characters.

Her fanbase is known as the Pikarmy, but members of her channel are known as the Pikair force.

In-jokes/memes

• She watches Kiryu Coco and Akai Haato, and once tweeted "fuck it im selling meth" as a reference to one of Haato's meme review streams. Due to some people not understanding the reference, there is an in joke of her being a meth dealer amongst the Pikarmy.
• Due to her computer not being able to run some games, Pikarmy dub it "Potato-chan".

Personal Life

Pikamee's mother is Japanese and her father is a American, hence her bilinguality speaking english and japanese. She also mentions having a German grandparent. They initially resided in Japan but later, her parents separated, and her father moved.

She adopted a Scottish fold cat in real life and named him Socks (born: November 11), after her cat in Minecraft which passed away. In February 2021, Socks was sick, and according the vetineranian he only had 10 days to live, but donations from the Pikarmy and Pikamee's own mother funded the medicine that he needed.

Pikamee suffers from insomnia and is prone to motion sickness. When she was a child, she would constantly have flu, which her parents attributed to a cat allergy. However, a blood test would later determined that she was not allergic to cats, and she would adopt a cat in the future.

Trivia

• She can play the flute, and the song you hear in her intro is done by her. She also played her recorder horribly on purpose for comedic effect, hence the birth of the "nice boat" meme.
• She drinks over 5 cups of coffee a day.
• Due to wanting to keep her streams safe for work to avoid demonitization, if Pikamee sees that a username is inappropriate, she refers to it as "He-who-must-not-be-named" (as a reference to Lord Voldemort). However she tends to slip up and swear, as well as play games that are not family friendly at times.
• She hates bugs, especially flying ones, as their buzzing sound makes her uncomfortable.
• Her favorite anime of all time is Spice & Wolf, and she even cosplayed as Holo at an anime convention.
• Her favorite movies are Shaun of the Dead and Taken. If she likes a movie enough, she'll watch the dub to see the localization of jokes or lines.
• Her favorite band is Maroon 5, with Misery being her favorite song.
• She is a picky eater but loves donuts, especially Reese's.
• Due to her having an affinity for wooden spoons, her mascot is one from IKEA (with slight nibble marks from her cat) dubbed Tomoe (after a mix of her genmates names, Tomoshika and Monoe). Due to her being from IKEA, Amano has claimed that he is Swedish, and that her birthday is 21 April.
• She is 135cm (4'5).
• Pikamee's favorite color is purple.
• When a spider appeared in her room, she named it Emoto (an anagram of Tomoe), but it disappeared after a mantis appeared in front of her house (some theorize that the mantis was responsible for killingthe spider). Pikamee then named the Mantis Emoto.
