NSYNC is an American pop, dance pop, and teen pop boy band that formed in 1995. They became one of the most well known and popular boy bands of all time. One of their members, Justin Timberlake, even went on to his own very successful music career, which has lasted to this very day. The members included Justin Timberlake, Joshua Scott "JC" Chasez, Christopher Alan Kirkpatrick, Joseph Anthony Fatone Jr., (who also went on to get second place on Dancing with the Stars in 2007), and James Lance Bass.

The band released four studio albums, four compilation albums, five video albums, and ten soundtracks, including popular hits like Pokémon, Deadpool and Disneymania.

History[]

Formation[]

In 1994, Chris Kirkpatrick, a singer in The Hollywood Hi-Tones, was introduced to Lou Pearlman, the creator of the Backstreet Boys, through a mutual friend who heard Pearlman was interested in financing another vocal group.[1]

Timberlake's vocal coach recommended 16-year-old Mississippian Lance Bass, who was accepted into the group[2] and nicknamed "Lansten" to maintain the name 'NSYNC'. Bass flew to Orlando for auditions.[2]

Popularity[]

After facing legal issues, NSYNC refocused and released their second album, No Strings Attached, in January 2000. The upbeat dance track, which reached the top 5 of the Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for five weeks, is considered their signature song. The group's first number one single in the U.S. was "It's Gonna Be Me," which remained at the top on the Billboard Hot 100 from July 29 to August 11, 2000.[3]

NSYNC released Live From Madison Square Garden, a home video of its HBO Special. They co-hosted the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show, "The Kings of Rock and Pop," with Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly.[4] NSYNC also performed at the 2002 Winter Olympics ceremonies.[5]

"Bye Bye Bye" gained popularity in 2024 due to its appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine.[6][7]

Trivia[]
