5 Seconds of Summer (often shortened to 5SOS) are an Australian pop rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, formed in late-2011.[1] The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Robert Hemmings (born: July 16, 1996 (1996-07-16) [age 28]),[2] lead guitarist Michael Gordon Clifford (born: November 20, 1995 (1995-11-20) [age 29]),[3] bassist Calum Thomas Hood (born: January 25, 1996 (1996-01-25) [age 28]),[4] and drummer Ashton Fletcher Irwin (born: July 7, 1994 (1994-07-07) [age 30]).[5]

Originally beginning their career as YouTube celebrities, they rose to international fame while touring with English-Irish boy band One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour.[6] After they signed on records label, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, they released their first song, "Out Of My Limit".[7]

5SOS have sold more than 3.7 million albums, more than 2 million concert tickets globally, and amassed over 7 billion song streams, making them one of the most successful Australian musical acts in history.[8][9]

5 Seconds Of Summer's most popular song is called "Youngblood" and also their most popular video or song on YouTube called "She Looks So Perfect".[10]

  • The band's name was created by Michael.[11]
  • The 5SOS' YouTube channel was originally Luke's channel, it was under the name "hemmo1996".[12]
  • 5SOS revealed in 2014 that they would launch their own record label, called Hi or Hey Records.[13]
    • The name of the record label was chosen through a fan voting system on Twitter.[14]
    • 5SOS announced in May 2019 that they had left Hi or Hey Records/Capitol Records and signed with Interscope Records for their fourth studio album "Calm".[15]
  • Two members of the band, Ashton and Luke, have released solo albums, Superbloom and When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, respectively.
    • Superbloom was released on 23 September 2020, and When Facing the Things We Turn Away From was released on 13 August 2021.[16][17]
  • In June 2019, the band appeared in a season 6 episode of Celebrity Family Feud, in which celebrity teams compete for a $50,000 top prize to be donated to the charity of the winning team's choice. The band competed against The Chainsmokers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.[18][19]
  • In September 2019, the band appeared in a season 16 episode of Good Mythical Morning.[20][21]
  • Also in September 2019, the band appeared in a season 1 episode of Lilly Singh's late-night talk show, A Little Late with Lilly Singh.[22]
  • In April 2021, in honor of the third anniversary of their hit single, Youngblood, the band collaborated with Seth Everman.[23]
    • According to Seth, Michael contacted him and asked him if he wanted to do something with them for the song's third anniversary.[23]
  • Their song "Want You Back" was featured in Simlish Soundtrack for The Sims 4's Seasons Expansion Pack.[24]
  • The band released a cover of Queen's "Killer Queen."[25]
    • The cover was made released to support the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a group started by Queen members to aid in the fight against HIV/AIDS.[26]
