5 News is an English news service of Channel 5. It was firstly released on March 31, 1997.
History[]
5 News released in 1997, then being a new programme for Channel 5.[1] The same year, it won a Royal Television Society Journalism Award for Production.[2] On January 3, 2005, a bulletin, produced by Sky News, was planned for the report of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which gained attention. 5 News had a new look in February 2008 when their titles and theme music had changed.[3] 5 News had many other side-shows including Live from Studio Five and Five News at 7. Many anchors and producers of the show started to leave some years later, due to issues or new jobs. A segment of 5 News, 5 News Weather, is partnered with Met Office. When the channel first started, newsreader Kirsty Young walked around the set to deliver news. In 2007, 5 News banned the practice, along with "perching," as it was copied by other broadcasters.[4]
In October 2005, the channel introduced celebrity guest editors, including Howard Marks and Alastair Campbell.[5]
