Ποδοσφαιρικός Όμιλος ΑΠΟΕΛ (English: APOEL Football Club), also known as APOEL FC, is a Cypriot professional soccer club from Nicosia playing in the Cypriot First League.
History[]
20th century[]
The club was founded in 1926 by Greek Cypriots under the name POEL. In 1928, the club changed its name to APOEL due to the huge athletic skills of the players.[1]
The club became professional in 1934 when it was promoted to the first league from which it has been never relegated. In the following years, the club managed to dominate the national competition, as well as the European cups, in which it did very well.
In 1974, due to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the club played in the Greek Super League, but the year before the invasion, Cyprus was in a huge crisis and the club was forced to play in Greece like the rest of the teams in Cyprus. After 1973-74 season, the club returned to the national league.[2]
The following years brought success for the team which built a strong position in the domestic competition. The club won 28 national championships, 21 national cups and 14 super cups.
21st century[]
On February 12, 2022, APOEL FC would create their YouTube and would upload their first video on February 14.[3]
