David Wang (born: July 1, 2002 (2002-07-01) [age 23]), better known online as AQUA (also known as aquav2), is an Austrian professional gamer and social media personality. He is known for playing Fortnite: Battle Royale, winning the Fortnite World Cup duos competition alongside Nyhrox,[1] and is a 2-time Fortnite Championship Series winner in the European region. David has been competing in Fortnite since 2018, and has earned over 2.1 million dollars, making him the highest paid Austrian gamer and 39th highest in the world.[2]

On social media, David has over 330,000 subscribers on YouTube, over 700,000 followers on Twitter, and over 480,000 followers on Twitch. He is not as active on YouTube or Twitch, but still competes for Fortnite.

History[]

David started competing in video games in December of 2018, playing Fortnite. He won €150 in the Trymacs competition, placing 5th in duo vs squads, and was 4th place in the solo vs squads competition, earning €600.[3][4]

In 2019, David competed for the World Cup as a solo and as a duo Nyhrox. On week 4, the duo were 3rd place, high enough to qualify for the finals, and each earning $3,250.[5] David would qualify again on week 7 as a solo, placing 1st, and earning $5,000.[6]

At the Fortnite World Cup on July 27, 2019, David and his duo Nyhrox would participate. In three of their games, they had only accumulated six points. However, on game 4, the two would win a victory royale, earning them 10 points, and claiming 5 eliminations together, earning 5 extra points. The duo would end up earning a back-to-back victory, and claiming 7 eliminations together, earning 17 points game 5. The duo would end up in second position after game 5, behind Zayt and Saf, who were on top of the leaderboard throughout games 1 to 5. The duo of Zayt and Saf ended up earning one point in game 6, while AQUA and Nyhrox would earn another 11 points, taking first place, each earning $1,500,000.[7]

David would participate in the solos competition the following day, and would place 94th, but has still earned $50,000.[8]

David would then participate in the Fortnite Championships Series. (commonly known as FNCS) He had competed in it since its' debut in Chapter 1: Season X (10). The first FNCS finals on Season 10, David and his trio, stompy and Tschiiinken would take first place, each earning $160,000.[9] At the FNCS Invitational in May of 2020, David played as a solo, and was 3rd place, earning $70,000.[10] David would then win another FNCS. During Chapter 3: Season 2, David and his teammate Veno would take first place in the European region, each earning $150,000.[11]

The following day, David asked his duo partner Nyhrox about splitting, due to their main languages being different, and because they only played together during competitions.[12]

Controversy[]

Stream Sniping controversy[]

David had taken part in the Fortnite Championship Series for Chapter 2: Season 4 week 3 in the European region. During the semi-finals, David and his trio Nezon and Noahreyli were accused of stream sniping the trio of benjyfishy, MrSavage and Letshe. During a game, the two trio teams collided, and as the team of benjyfishy, MrSavage and Letshe knocked and eliminated AQUA and Nezon, their last alive partner Noahreyli left the game alive to prevent the other team from earning a point, which was against the technical rules. David claimed during that game, his game crashed. However, this would be counterpointed by revealing David being in the lobby rather than being offline.[13][14]

After the match, the two teams would collide again in another match, but with AQUA, Nezon and Noahreyli eliminating the trio.[15]

During the finals, the trio of AQUA, Nezon and Noahreyli would play their first game before getting banned due to stream sniping in the semi-finals.[16]
