GameChap: I say, what-ho, chaps and chapettes! GameChap and Bertie here!
Bertie: Yes!

―AdamzoneTopMarks' former intro

George, better known online as AdamzoneTopMarks or GameChap, is an English YouTuber, gamer, and musician who's known for his walkthroughs, mod showcases, top 10 lists, and music videos, mainly from Miitopia, Super Mario Maker, Minecraft, and other games. He's also sometimes accompanied by his friend, Bertie.

History[]

GameChap created his YouTube channel on April 18, 2007 but didn't start uploading videos until October 19, 2010 where he originally created short, live action skits.[1] He would later begin making let's plays around 2011 where he first played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He would later begin to create a variety of Minecraft content, such as Quest for the Golden Monocle, Survival Island, and mod showcases. On November 6, 2014, he created the channel, TheChapsPlay which mostly consisted of the same content from AdamzonTopMarks, uploading let's plays, compilations, and top 10 lists. Around 2015, they began making content around Nintendo and other games, such as news and announcements, comparisons, evolutions, etc.

On June 13, 2015, GameChap received a copyright strike from Nintendo from a video reporting leaked content for Super Smash Bros for. Wii U and 3DS. GameChap and Bertie would criticize Nintendo for restricting free speech and allowing other gaming websites, such as IGN, Kotaku, and Polygon to report on the leak. They would send Nintendo a letter and would encourage fans to support them to get Nintendo to notice.[2] Two days later, GameChap gave an update about the situation saying that Nintendo has not responded to the strike, but their network said they would investigate further. They later found out that other YouTubers' videos were blocked worldwide, while their videos were striked. They plan to take further action against Nintendo to remove the block from the video, though what has happened to the original video is currently unknown.[3]

Content[]

Quest for the Golden Monocle[]

Quest for the Golden Monocle was a series in Minecraft that was created on July 5, 2011. The series involves GameChap and Bertie going on an adventure to find the Golden Monocle, which can help its user find treasure after being challenged by Count Cadbury. The series is currently unfinished, only spanning 18 videos.

Mod Showcases[]

GameChap and Bertie would begin showing off different types of mods in Minecraft, such as nukes, monsters, weapons, natural disasters, etc. Sometimes characters would become reoccurring throughout these showcases, such as Mr. Mayor, who is always stressed about the destruction of his house from the mods, which typically does get destroyed at the end of each episode. The first mod they showcased was the Aether Gold Dungeon boss on July 23, 2011.

Clay Soldiers[]

Clay Soldiers is a series in Minecraft in which GameChap and Bertie pit small teams of clay soldiers from a mod using several different arenas. The first mention of the clay soldiers was in a mod showcase video where they talked about their characteristics. They would then begin to make teams of four colored soldiers fight each other in different fan-made arenas, such as inside statues, dungeons, castles, etc. There are currently 103 episodes in the series, with the first one released on July 30, 2011.

Minecraft music parodies[]

GameChap would upload several parody music videos using elements from Minecraft, such as the song "Mine It Out", which parodies the Will.i.am song, "Scream and Shout". While GameChap would direct the video and write the lyrics, he would collab with several people to animate the video and sing the lyrics, some reoccurring YouTubers include, T.J. Brown, TheDuckCow, bLiNd (Jordan Aguirre), etc. There are currently four music videos, with the first parody song being uploaded on February 14, 2013.

Super Mario Maker Top 10 lists[]

Around 2015, GameChap would start making Super Mario Maker levels where he showed off levels made by players online. The most prominemt type of videos are top 10 lists ranging in various different subjects, such as the best courses, most difficult, music levels, boss levels, etc. Sometimes these videos will feature no commentary, while others feature the voices of GameChap and Bertie. He uploaded his first top 10 Super Mario Maker list on September 11, 2015, and there are currently 74 videos.

Criticism[]

GameChap has received criticism for using clickbait for some of his videos, such as misleading titles and use of fan images in official games. For example, in the video "Super Mario Maker TOP 5 HARDEST LEVELS! (Wii U)", they show that the first level they play has a 17% clear rate. Some have said that a 17% is fairly easy and that the level is simple to complete. Some have also criticized the channel for disabling the comments and like-to-dislike button to avoid backlash from fans.[4]

Some have also criticized them for using lewd or fetish material in the thumbnails of videos, such as featuring Minecraft girls in suggestive clothing or poses. One such example is the video "Super Mario Evolution of GIANTESS BATTLES 1996-2018", which feature footage from a fan game and an image of Princess Daisy stepping on Mario, which some viewed as clickbait.[5]

Trivia[]

  • GameChap's face was shown twice in his first two videos, "THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN KART: EPISODE ONE!"[6] and "Naked Shame! This Morning DOUBLE SHOCK: The Gentleman Observer".[7] Other Gentleman Observer videos have been released, but they've since been deleted.
  • His avatar was drawn by Shadow443.[8]
  • Bertie first appeared in the first part for The Quest for the Golden Monocle on July 8, 2011 where only his voice was heard.[9] He would make his first physical appearance in the second part.[10]
  • Some speculate that the channel went through a bug where the channel randomly changed their name from AdamzoneTopMarks to GameChap.
