Åse Agneta Fältskog (born: April 5, 1950 (1950-04-05) [age 74]), known as Agnetha Fältskog and Anna Fältskog, is a Swedish singer, songwriter and a member of the pop group ABBA.

History[]

Early life[]

Agneta Åse Fältskog was born in Jönköping on April 5, 1950.[1] At six years old, Fältskog composed her first song, "Två små troll" ("Two Small Trolls").

The self-penned debut single "Jag var så kär" was recorded on October 16, 1967 and topped the Swedish Chart on January 28, 1968, selling over 80,000 copies.[1] She submitted her song "Försonade" to Melodifestivalen, the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest preliminary, but it was not selected for the final.

ABBA[]

Fältskog's friendship with Björn Ulvaeus, a member of the Hootenanny Singers, and her connections with Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson, who had already written songs with Ulvaeus, ultimately led to the formation of ABBA.

On July 6, 1971, Fältskog married Björn Ulvaeus.[2]

In late 1973, ABBA was invited by Swedish television to contribute a song for Melodifestivalen 1974, and their upbeat song "Waterloo" was chosen.[3] With more experience and preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest, ABBA won the nation's hearts on Swedish television on February 9, 1974.[4] Winning the contest in April 1974, they were able to tour Europe and perform on major television shows, resulting in the "Waterloo" single charting in many European countries.

In 1981, Fältskog participated in Melodifestivalen as a composer, writing the ballad "Men natten är vår" with Ingela Forsman's lyrics. She chose new talent Kicki Moberg instead of performing herself.

In May 1983, Fältskog released her first solo album post-ABBA, Wrap Your Arms Around Me, produced by Mike Chapman.

Fältskog, who had stopped recording music for 16 years, returned to the music scene with her 2004 album, My Colouring Book.[5][6] In 2013, Fältskog released her highest UK charting solo album, A.[7][8][9]

On March 21, 2024, ABBA's four members were appointed Commander, First Class, of the Royal Order of Vasa by Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf, marking the first time in almost 50 years that Swedish Royal Orders of Knighthood were bestowed on Swedes, and marking the 50th anniversary of ABBA's Eurovision Song Contest victory.[10]
