Air Austral is a Réunionese airliner based in the French overseas department, Réunion.[1] They have 18 destinations with a fleet size of 10. They are part of the Vanilla Alliance since its launch in 2015.[2]
Airline[]
The airline was founded in 1974 by Gérard Ethève, under the name "Réunion Air Services". Operations began in 1977, with a flight from Sainte-Marie to Mayotte. In late-1986, the airline name was changed to "Air Réunion" with help from Air France and Air Mauritius. Four years later, in 1990, the name was changed to "Air Austral" after recieving investments from Air France.[3]
On September 21, 2015, the Vanilla Alliance was launched, and became a member, along with four other airliners.[4]
In 2021, Airbus delivered three A220s to Air Austral, making them the first French airline in the Indian region to operate an A220.[5]
Channel[]
The channel was created on May 5, 2014, and began uploading on the same day. The first video is a promotional video, talking about flights to countries in mainland Africa, such as Mozambique and Tanzania. The channel uploads vlog-styled videos, along with promotional content. Most of the videos are in French.[6][7]
