airberlincom, also known as Air Berlin (stylized as airberlin and airberlin.com), was a German airline that operated from 1991 to 2017.[1] The airline was the 2nd largest in Germany and 8th largest in Europe.[2]

On October 27, 2017, Air Berlin ceased operations due to financial issues and escalating costs.[3]

History[]

The airline was founded in 1978 by Kim Lundgren, a former Pan Am captain. They began operations on April 28, 1979, with the first flight going to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.[4]

On March 20, 2012, they joined the oneworld Alliance, becoming the 11th member.[5]

On October 28, 2017, Air Berlin ceased operations and left the oneworld Alliance.[6]

Aftermath[]

On December 14, 2018, an Air Berlin administrator sued Etihad Airways for 2 billion Euros ($2,187,030,000 USD). The reason is that Etihad promised to provide funding to the airline for the next 18 months, but months later, Etihad no longer provide funding as Air Berlin's business was "deteriorated at an unprecedented pace."[7]

On April 23, 2022, Etihad Airways won the court case.[8]

Channel[]

The channel was created on May 13, 2009, and began uploading on the same day. The first video celebrates the 30th anniversary of the airline. On August 8, 2017, they would upload their final video, months before ceasing operations.[9]

On their channel, they uploaded vlog-styled content, along with commercials. Most of their videos are in German, however, they sometimes upload videos in English.[10][11]
