Syawish Rehman[citation needed] (born January 25[1], 1996[2]), better known online as Al Muqaddimah, is a Pakistani[citation needed] educational YouTuber who is known for making history videos.

Content[]

Syawish's content is about education where he does,

  • History: Syawish will do videos about History, Some examples include "Humayun and the Suri Empire | 1530CE - 1556CE", "What do the Sana'a Manuscripts Tell Us About the Quran | Al Muqaddimah", "Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi | Al Muqaddimah Shorts", and "Why did the Islamic World Reject the Printing Press".[3][4][5][6]

History[]

Syawish started his channel on September 6th, 2018 and uploaded his first video a day later. However, that video is no longer available to watch as it was a completely different style to his later videos. He has cited the fact that he loves playing Paradox Interactive's Grand Strategy Video Game Crusader Kings II as one of the inspirations behind his channel. According to him, he often found himself narrating the events of the game. Other than that, he has also mentioned that the reason behind starting Al Muqaddimah was the lack of good videos on the history of the Islamic World on YouTube in general. As he put it, "Even Crash Course has roughly four videos that primarily focus on the Islamic World despite the Islamic World having such a huge footprint in history".

Trivia[]

  • He revealed in UsefulCharts's video on the Sikh Gurus Family Tree that he is a descent of Adina Beg Khan via Khan's daughter, but that his descent from a daughter makes him ineligible to make himself the King of Punjab.
  • While Motion Graphics Design and History are his passion, Syawish actually has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from his home country of Pakistan. [citation needed]
  • He moved from Pakistan to Germany in 2019 to pursue a Master's Degree which he never finished and moved to Canada in 2023 to work at UsefulCharts, another YouTube Channel.[citation needed]
  • He is Punjabi and belongs to the Arain Biradari of Punjabi Muslims. [citation needed]
  • Other than history, he often posts on his social media about Urdu poetry, which he claims he has been reading since he was 7. He also writes poetry in his mother language, Urdu.[citation needed]
  • Syawish speaks English, Urdu, Punjabi and "can get by", as he said, in German and Farsi, the latter of which he learned to understand Farsi poetry.[citation needed]
  • In February 2025, Syawish reached 250,000 subscribers on YouTube and announced a Timeline of Islamic History Poster.
