Allen Pan (born: December 22, 1989 (1989-12-22) [age 34]),[1] is an American engineer and YouTuber who is known for his YouTube series Sufficiently Advanced (SA), a science webshow where he invents gadgets that are often related to pop culture.

Allen created his channel in 2015, Allen Pan. He uploaded his first video in September, 2015, where he makes a Naruto rasengan cosplay prop. His next video is the first in the Sufficiently Advanced series, where he made a replica of Thor's hammer Mjolnir that has an electromagnet that sticks the hammer to the ground, and a fingerprint scanner that turns the electromagnet off when only he grabs it. The Mjolnir video went viral and his next video is thanking everyone for 25K+ subs.

"Sufficiently Advanced" is about Allen inventing advanced gadgets that are either related to pop culture and/or solves a problem or busts a myth. In the videos he goes over the process of inventing in an enthusiastic and humorous fashion. Some gadgets he made in the Sufficiently Advanced series include: lightsabers and plasma blades, a taser Nerf gun, a knife that cuts 333 times a second, a gun that shoots face masks onto people's faces, Hulk hands that can actually smash bricks, a treadmill PS4 controller, an air umbrella (a Kickstarter scam product that became a meme), a reinvention of the soda siphoning backpack from Operation Soda Steal, and more. In 2022, he created a device that allows snakes to walk.[2]

He, alongside William Osman, Peter Sripol, Kevin Kohler (The Backyard Scientist) and Nigel Braun (Nilered) created the Safety Third podcast. Allen appeared since the beginning of the podcast and still is a member today.

Personal life[]

He was born and raised in Illinois and moved to LA to compete in MythBusters: The Search, a reality competition show that was hosted by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman that was made to determine the hosts for the MythBusters reboot. He did not win. He has a degree in electrical engineering. He also has a younger brother named Alex (born: 2002) who is sometimes featured in his videos.

  • He has been inventing gadgets ever since he was a kid. He even uploaded a video where he makes some of his childhood gadgets.
  • His first video's gadget was made as a present for Alex's 13th birthday. He has also made a gadget for his 16th.
  • He is a huge fan of anime, Marvel, and video games.
  • In 2020, Indiegogo scammers stole footage from Allen's lightsaber videos for their fraudulent campaign. He made a video exposing the scam.
  • He owns the Mythbusters trademark.
