This is Cody, of AlternateHistoryHub.

―AlternateHistoryHub's outro

Cody Franklin (born: July 16, 1995 (1995-07-16) [age 29]), better known online as AlternateHistoryHub, is an American educational YouTuber who goes over different alternate histories and dives in the possibilities as to what consequence this difference makes compared to the current history. On October 2021, Cody launched a new companion channel called PointlessHub, dedicated to reviewing pop culture that interests him.

Personal Life[]

Cody was born on July 16, 1995 in Maumee, Ohio, and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He is of Catholic faith. He has a brother named Tyler. Tyler makes music, often uploading it to his SoundCloud and/or his shitpost channel, Seaburger Dot Org. Before that both he and Cody worked together on music under the name "No Sustain". Tyler also has 2 channels, Whimsu and KnowlegeHusk .

Cody has mentioned his political and religious views during his Twitter AMA; he is socially conservative and identifies as Catholic, but is economically left-leaning, largely a pacifist on foreign policy, and believes in decentralizing the Church.[1]

Cody has a wife, Izzy, however, she is rarely mentioned in his videos. Despite this, her character is in his outros and randomly thrown into videos. In June 2022, he announced that she is pregnant. Their son was born on November the 11th[2]

Cody attended college in Wisconsin.

About[]

This entire channel is dedicated to the "What If?" of history. Using knowledge of geography, population, and other historical facts we can see what could have happened if events changed.

―AlternateHistoryHub's about section

The channel has had many scenarios such as how the world would be different if the Axis won World War II, if America lost the Revolution, if the Berlin Blockade sparked The Third World War, alternate countries, if Christianity never existed and many other subjects.

In addition to focusing on alternate scenarios, the channel has had videos focusing on the lore of various fictional works such as Harry Turtledove's "The Southern Victory", "Disunited States of America" and "Worldwar" novels, "The Purge" film series, DC's "Injustice", Marvel's "X-Men", "Fallout" games, Philip K. Dick's "The Man in the High Castle", "Attack on Titan" manga and anime, "World War Z" novel etc.

History[]

Cody joined on December 25, 2012, and has over 2 million subscribers and over 285 million views as of August 26, 2021. His first videos were "What if the Axis won WW2?" and "What if the Roman Empire never fell?" Since then he has been very successful, but then like many other YouTubers like I Hate Everything been experiencing problems with YouTube during 2015 to early 2016: "YouTube's Dark Age".

Cody's problem was that he wasn't receiving money, which led to a major delay with his "What if Germany won World War II? Part 4." Cody does contests, so other people could do their own projects and show Cody. Around September 29, 2017, Cody partnered with StepBackHistory, Tyler and EmperorTigerstar to start the podcast livestreams called So That Happened. It currently has 8 live streams by 2nd October 2023.

As of now, he currently (or supposedly) resides in Texas, which was tacitly made clear in his video "What if Texas was divided".

PointlessHub[]

It is what it is.

―PointlessHub's about section

In October 2021, Cody announced a new companion channel called PointlessHub. Its main focus is on pop culture that interests him, whether past or present. As the name suggests, its focus isn't on anything important, but rather is to serve as sheer entertainment. The channel's premise is similar to the other pop culture-focused videos he's done in the past on the main channel, which were usually related to history in some way. It's also arguably a spiritual successor to the original KnowledgeHub before his brother Tyler took it over.

The first episode was of the 2009-2011 Spike TV series Deadliest Warrior. He has since reviewed Battle: LA, Michael Bay's Transformers movies, Halo Legends, Battleship, 2012, and The Boys comic book series by Garth Ennis (in relation to the hit TV series on Amazon Prime). His reviews thus far have focused on works made from the late aughts/early 2010s, likely due to that being what he grew up with.

The avatars used in PointlessHub notably differ in contrast to AlternateHistoryHub, in that they have prominent limbs but no defined head (instead the face is on the central body), compared to the AHH avatars having a defined head and body but no limbs.

Crossovers[]

As with some YouTubers, Cody/Alternate History Hub has done crossovers with other users as well as collaborations with them. These include but not limited to:

  1. The Great War: Appeared on "What If the Schlieffen Plan Had Succeeded Part 1 and 2" since his video is also related to the Schlieffen Plan in question.
  2. EmperorTigerstar: Co-hosted the 4-part "The Southern Victory Series" by author Harry Turtledove. He is a common collaborator with Cody hosting So That Happened podcast, co-hosted "World War II: Alien Front" (a video talking about another Harry Turtledove series called Worldwar) and Cody making a cameo appearance on EmperorTigerstar's video on the Whig Party. Recently, he has made a 'review and pass over' collaborated about Harry Turtledove's The war that came early. His review was the most negative out of the two, particularly as to how contrived the plot extended to six books, rather than two or three.
  3. Extra History/Extra Credit: Made a cameo on the channel's video on the Articles of Confederation at the end and the former would appear on "What If We Kept the Articles of Confederation".
  4. List 25: Co-hosted the "What If the Industrial Revolution Never Happened" with List 25.
  5. History Buffs: History Buffs: Apocalypto: Made a cameo appearance at the end.
  6. Knowing Better: Knowing Better appeared in a video he made called "The History of the World According to 'Ancient Aliens'", which was a spoof on the HISTORY channel TV show "Ancient Aliens".[1]

Armenian Genocide video[]

On April 24, 2015, Cody did a video on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, talking about the event and the millions of people killed (Christian Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks) in the genocide by the Ottoman Empire detailing the consequences for what it had on all three non-Turkish cultures and Turkey's subsequent denial of the event.

This video is notable because unlike many of his videos on Alternate History Hub, this one has no humor or even music to fit in with the somber and tragic nature of the Armenian Genocide. The reason for this is that the Ottoman Empire's successor state, Turkey, denied the genocide ever happening, cracking down on those who say it happened and cutting diplomatic ties to any nation bringing the genocide up. In Cody's words,

"The equivalent is Germany denying the holocaust, cracking down on those who bring it up, and cutting diplomatic ties with nations who do."

Quotes[]

PointlessHub[]

  • "Is he f*cking that brain? Is Charlie Day f*cking that monster brain?"[3]
  • "Raleigh's kind of an audience conduit; a blank slate for any dumb teen American boy to imagine themselves piloting a giant-*ss mech with his Japanese GF. *chuckles*"[4]

Trivia[]

  • One of Cody's biggest series was the "What if Germany Won World War II?", a four-part series focusing on the consequences and impact of a Nazi-dominated Europe on European society and a Cold War between Nazi Germany and the United States.
  • Cody is known for his distinctive baritone voice. However, in his early videos from 2013 and 2014, Cody's voice was noticeably more nasally and higher-pitched. Some fans joke that he hadn't yet reached puberty at the time.
  • As of "What if Mussolini Remade the Roman Empire", Cody has stopped using swastikas when representing the Nazis due to YouTube freaking out over the Nazi swastika despite it being used in a non pro-Nazi context. Cody has since then mockingly replaced the swastika with the YouTube logo.
    • Cody has also avoided Youtube's censorship when addressing anything relating to the Coronavirus Pandemic. He would completely substitute the word with Kyogre, which simply sounds similar to it.
  • All characters represented in Cody's videos (including himself) are mini humans (minus arms or legs). For example countries such as the USA are represented by color and accessories (such as a hat or glasses).
  • Cody has a 2nd channel, Shitpost Hub, where he posts, as you would expect, shitposts.
  • He was also mentioned by GradeAUnderA in the video "Everything That's Wrong With YouTube [5]
