Daniel Baryon (born: March 9, 1986[1], better known online as Anark, is a YouTuber who aims to explore the philosophical foundations of leftist ideas, especially those of the anarchist and libertarian-socialist variety.[2]
)Personal life[]
He is an organiser in Tulsa, Oklahoma,[3] and has a background in particle physics.[4] Daniel has stated that he has very minor bisexual tendencies.[5] He was raised as a Southern Baptist.[6] Daniel’s favourite anime is Cowboy Bebop.[7]
Philosophy[]
Daniel’s epistemology is scientific scepticism, and his thinking is empirical and rationalist in nature.[8] His metaphysics is Physicalism, and he does not believe in a spirit, gods, or any form of afterlife.[9] He is an antitheist.[10] He does not believe in free will.[11] Daniel’s theory of meaning is derived from Existentialism, especially the work of Albert Camus.[12] His ethics are mixture of Consequentialism and Rule utilitarianism.[13] His ideology is Especifismo, as stated most recently in his 18k Celebration Livestream. He broadly agrees with the works of Rudolf Rocker, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Murray Bookchin. He also likes Errico Malatesta.[14]Daniel believes that power structures inherently “tend towards the maintenance of themselves at the expense of those over which they hold power,” and so they “must be held accountable to their subjects,” but that this requires “true democratic control.” Thus, “all power structures should be flattened in order to maintain their accountability to the masses.” Daniel’s praxis is prefiguration and social revolution.[15]
Aims[]
Daniel has stated that “growth really isn't the main goal [of Anark]. Anark is meant to be a platform to analyze and synthesize a modern anarchism. If it grows slowly, but people are more thoroughly radicalized by it, then it is doing its purpose.”[16] He wants “to create a system by which consensus can emerge,”[17] and is “trying to arrive at a critical mass which can carry out revolution and to convert a maximal amount of the population (not a maximum), as to reduce reaction and smooth the transition into self-governance.”[18] Daniel is a vocal critic of state capitalism and authoritarian left ideologies.[19] His work is also published on Anarchist Library[20] and the Commoner.[21]
