Channel History[]

Animations[]

Ani created his channel in March of 2020, and started off making animation style videos - and he has said that this is where he got his name: Ani(mation)magician. He posted short stick figure animations almost daily, and ended up posting 15 of these videos before moving away from animation based content and not posting for 2 weeks. These videos all performed less than well, leaving Ani at around 20 subscribers after a month of posting content.

Minecraft Gameplay Content[]

After his two week break from animations, Ani started regularly posting Minecraft gameplay content at least once a week, and initially put out daily content. In these first videos, he played on the "Another Vanilla" and "VMCTec" servers, in 20-minute episodes. These videos gained little traction, and after a few months Ani had just over 30 subscribers.

Video Essay Content[]

Ani then started explored new avenues and forms of content, making redstone tutorial videos, to his first foray into video essay territory with his two part series, explaining the pros and cons of Minecraft Singleplayer vs Multiplayer. His first real breakthrough being his video titled: "Meet The Hermits! - Episode 1: Mumbo Jumbo", the first of a series called Meet the Hermits. Ani continued to post Minecraft Gameplay content in this time, mostly from the VMC Tec server.

1.16 Update[]

Ani made a flurry of content after the Minecraft 1.16 update released, posting daily videos with new farms, ideas and tips and tricks - all based around the nether update or the nether itself, all of which became his best performing videos at the time, garnering a little over 300 views each. His video on how to raid piglin bastions became his best video at the time, peaking at around 900 views, but was then outperformed by a video explaining how to effectively combat the piglin brute, which peaked at over 1,000 views.

(Note: most videos before this point are currently unlisted on Ani's channel, and hence links could not be found for them)

Hybrid Content[]

Ani then continued to make a hybrid mix of video essay and gameplay content, posting the second episode of the Meet the Hermits series (on Grian), a video in which he showcased the highest you could jump in minecraft, and yet another VMCTec video. This would, incidentally, be his last VMCTec video. Ani then made a video recapping and documenting the entirety of PewDiePie's Minecraft Series and also posted a third episode of Meet the Hermits, which was about Etho's Lab. This Meet the Hermits video soon became his best video at the time, and managed to pass 1,000 views in just under a week, hitting 600 views in the first day or so.

The Dream SMP and Blowing Up[]

Ani then posted his best performing video to-date, The War of The Dream SMP...In 9 Minutes, in which he recapped and documented the events of the first war between L'Manberg and Dream on the notorious Minecraft server, the Dream SMP. This video became Ani's first video to pass 1,000 views, and now has 1.1 million views in total. This video catapulted Ani's channel into what it is today, and garnered him his initial subscribers. Ani then followed up with another Dream SMP war recap, and then many more Dream related videos, all of them in the video essay style. He did a Manhunt Analysis, talked about issues with a Manhunt and whether it was scripted based on objective evidence, and also a tips-style video, in which he documented the ways to reduce fall damage in Minecraft.

MCC and General MCYT content[]

Ani then shifted part of his focus from the Dream SMP to the popular tournament, Minecraft Championships. He made an analysis and team breakdown video of MCC 8, and continued this series until the event took a hiatus (MCC 13). Ani also made videos analysing and explaining the growth of famous Minecraft YouTubers like Wilbur Soot, Technoblade, and TommyInnit. He also recapped the history of MCC with TedsAttic, and applied to be in a viewer team for MCC 10.

Unfortunately, this application was denied, with Ani's team being given a runner-up position. The team were all invited to be testers for the tournament instead, and this is the first time Animagician and Mysticat publicly collaborated.

Diversified content[]

Ani then continued to make general MCYT content, hitting 10,000 subscribers. He also made a "response" video to Frostbyte Freeman, who was an up-and-coming Minecraft Video Essayist at the time as well. Some of Ani's notable videos from this period onwards include his Dream SMP Card Game video, in which he converted the Dream SMP into a card game, and his Mycelium Resistance video, where he collaborated with Frostbyte Freeman once again to speculate on the winner of the HermitCraft Mycelium Turf War.

Ani then made what he called his "best video yet", in which he looked for Minecraft's most iconic feature, and also posted a video (which blew up) in which he recapped every single Dream SMP member in under 30 seconds.

Twitter and Twitch Content[]

Ani is part of the fairly prolific twitter group named "Future Twitter", or futuretwt for short. Ani is one of the three founding members of this subtwitter, along with Mysticat and Frostbyte Freeman. Other notable members of this sub-twitter include CelestialRain, NotSouls, and Wolfeei.

The Future Twitter content creators all have a server which they stream on twitch, in which they do roleplay and also general SMP content, entitled FutureSMP.
