Apple Music is an American[1] media streaming service developed by Apple. It was launched on June 30, 2015,[2] and users can purchase a subscription to listen to any song in the website's catalog.[3]

History[]

Before Apple Music, iPod and iTunes were known for having "revolutionized digital music".[4] Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, was opposed to music subscription services.[5] In 2014, Apple bought audio equipment manufacturer Beats Electronics as well as gaining ownership of its own service, Beats Music.[6]

Sony Music CEO Doug Morris confirmed that Apple had plans to announce a music streaming service in 2015.[7] Shortly after the release of Apple Music, Taylor Swift wrote a letter to Apple criticizing its decision to not repay artists and refund users during their free trial period. Following this, she had decided to hold back her album 1989 from the service.[8] Apple's Senior Vice President announced on Twitter that Apple Music will pay for artist streaming, even during a customer's free trial period.[9]

Channel[]

The channel was created on August 15, 2013,[1] and the first video was uploaded on August 27, 2015.[10] The channel mostly uploads interviews with many popular music artists.[11]
