Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band which formed in 1995 by Johan Liiva, (lead vocals, and also bass guitar until 1997, and briefly in 1998), Christopher Amott, (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals, he was also a touring member in 2014), Michael Amott, (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals), and Daniel Erlandsson, (drums and keyboards). In 1997 Daniel Erlandsson left the band, and was briefly replaced by Peter Wildoer, but they swapped them back out again very quickly in 1998, and Daniel is still in this band to this day. In 2000 Johan Liiva left the band, and was replaced by Angela Gossow; however, even she parted ways with them in 2014, and was replaced by Alissa White-Gluz, who is still in the band to this day. Christopher Amott left the band in 2005, returned in 2007, but left again in 2012 and remained out this time, since they already had a guy to do lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals. They also had a member called Nick Cordle, who did lead guitar, rhythm guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, who joined in 2012, but he left in 2014. They had another member, Fredrik Åkesson, who did lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals, who joined in 2005, but left in 2007. The final two of their current members includes Sharlee D'Angelo, (bass guitar and backing vocals), who joined in 1998, and Jeff Loomis, (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals), who joined in 2014.
Since their inception in 1995, they've released a total of ten studio albums, including Black Earth, (1996), Stigmata, (1998), Burning Bridges, (1999), Wages of Sin, (2001), Anthems of Rebellion, (2003), Doomsday Machine, (2005), Rise of the Tyrant, (2007), Khaos Legions, (2011), War Eternal, (2014), and Will to Power, (2017), three live albums, which included Burning Japan Live 1999, (2000), Tyrants of the Rising Sun: Live in Japan, (2008), and As the Stages Burn!, (2017), three compilation albums, which includes The Root of All Evil, (2009), Manifesto of Arch Enemy, (2009), and Covered in Blood, (2019), four extended plays, which were Burning Angel, (2002), Dead Eyes See No Future, (2004), Revolution Begins, (2007), and Råpunk, (2017), and three video albums, which are Live Apocalypse, (2006), Tyrants of the Rising Sun: Live in Japan, (2008), and War Eternal Tour: Tokyo Sacrifice, (2016).
They're most famous for being one of the few incredibly popular death metal bands to have a female lead vocalist.
