August Bruce (born: April 3, 2002 (2002-04-03)), better known online as AugustTheDuck, is an American YouTuber known for his comedic commentary and reaction videos.

Content

August's earliest videos were uploaded in 2016. They were about random topics such as being homeless, how life was like as a single person. August also had a series called 'How to be X'. In 2019, August started making parodies of YouTube culture such as Youtubers preparing for their apology videos and Every Fortnite video ever. These videos were not popular, and in December 2021, August would react to them and mock them. He uploaded several storytime videos in 2020, the same year he began making commentary videos that became his signature style, and he would usually react to YouTube drama, unusual videos or people who had done irresponsible things. These videos helped him gain subscribers and he eventually reached 1,000 subscribers, with his Shane Dawson video playing a large part in it. He has also reacted to YouTube couples, anti maskers, and ASMRs.

August became well-known for reacting to Dhar Mann videos, lampooning them for being 'cringe', as well as their flawed premises. His subscribers would encourage him to react to more Dhar Mann videos, and he would also react to imitators of Dhar Mann such as Vid Chronicles, Generation Hope and Life Lessons With Luis. These videos catapulted him to fame, reaching 10k subscribers quickly. Of all the Dhar Mann copycats he has reacted to, Sameer Bhavnani is his least favorite. His subscriber count spiked after he collaborated with Pancho. He also reacts to animation story channels like My Story Animated.

August has also started to criticize many other "life lessons" style YouTubers such as Life Lessons with Luis and Generation Hope, among a copy of others as well. He is also openly critical of Sameer Bhavnani and regularly calls him the worst imitator of Dhar's, but Sameer has commented under one of his videos and never expressed any hatred of him, until he released a video called "Teen Shamed for Liking August the Duck" in which he calls August "August the Fuck".

On August 18, 2021, August announced he was no longer making videos of Dhar Mann and his clones, as he felt like they dominated his channel's uploads, and how wouldn't react to Dhar's videos unless they were so absurd, they warranted him reacting. But on September 24 of the same year, he commentated on this video "No One Asks BALD GIRL To The PROM, What Happens Is Shocking" where he pointed out the creepy implications of the video depicting Dhar taking a high schooler to prom. However, he has still continued, but only checks in once in a while.

He mainly and mostly focused on making videos on annoying YouTubers, Karens, bad YouTube couples and obnoxious people. On September 20, 2021, he uploaded his first movie review. However, the days of his Karen reviews are basically none. It is very rare, but a Karen video may pop up on his channel. Nowadays, he mainly covered TikTokers, stupid influencers, YouTuber controversies, and in-real-life serious situations.

In the more early days of his commentary videos, August swore more but censored it. He then kept the profanity to a minimum for a while around 2022 and 2023, up until 2024 where he started to swear more occasionally, except uncensored, This also applied to his new channel, The Ballistic Bird, but the intros/"coming up"s are censored as a reminder, Augusts' videos now will have occasional profanity.

Augusts intros usually showcase a clip of like "coming up", and then he says "Well guys," then goes on to state the topic. It shows a person in a suit, but with the head of a duck speaking with a lectern with a bunch of microphones. His editing style is usually zooming in every time there would a comma if it would be a video essay and zooming out seeing black borders for short commentary, slowly zooming in for longer commentary, commentary over the video playing in the background without audio if the video played is not important/video stretching, and around 2019-2021 slowly zooming out (since then August abandoned this style). Augusts official outros (before just ending the video abruptly) used to be a text-to-speech bot saying something random or "Subscribe or else I will be forced to uppercut your grandmother" with a microphone with eyes and a mouth, implying the TTS was being said by that. Before the black screen outros with "please subscribe" text, at the end of the rolling names of the channel supporters with the walking duck, this same TTS software/microphone would say "Subscribe" before ending abruptly.

August then adopted an animation of a duck animated waddling in place while channel member names are scrolling on the the left, and other social medias can be seen in the bottom left of the screen (Twitter (now X) and Instagram @Oohgust) for his outros. However, on November 1st, 2023, he then started to use a black screen with scrolling text in order of: "please subscribe", "my life depends on it", "well not really", "maybe?", "you shouldn't risk it", and finally, "just subscribe", without any other of his social medias. This starts with what sounds like a woodwind instrument (possibly a flute or oboe) with an electric piano background, and then shortly followed up by the speed going up, and bass coming into play. This outro style is the one he has today, and a very small group of people have protested to bring back the duck outro, yet August has not acknowledged this change request nor made the change.

Personal life

In March 2023, he stated that he was visiting Berlin, Germany, then visited the Czech Republic. During his European visit, he also announced that he would be starting a once a week stream on Twitch. It is not clear when August returned to the USA considering that Augusts' first stream cannot be found yet, but it was around April 18, 2023, where he said he was editing in an airplane on apparently American Airlines (implying he was flying back to America).

He has also played and coached football and touch football.

On July 7, 2023, August would make a video about how he bought a house.

On December 10th, 2023, August would make a new YouTube channel named "The Ballistic Bird". Around December 31st, 2023 and January 1st, 2024, August would make a community post announcing on his main channel that a video was coming out the following day to the post. The next day, on January 1st, 2024, August uploaded a video on the Ballistic Bird channel called "How Tough is a $90 Pistol?", where he tested a Hi-Point pistol on shooting and durability on his newly acquired piece of land, which he calls "paradise". At the end of the video, he reveals himself as August himself on the channel where he will be making similar videos like this in the future and asks the audience how August and his team can improve.

August would go on to make 6 more videos in the span of 2 months, racking up around 700,000 views and 37,000 subscribers (as of 12/01/2024). Around July 2024 after 4 months of inactivity on community posts and videos, August would make a community post on the Ballistic bird channel saying "Videos returning soon, it's been a wild few months y'all", although no videos were made after this post. Around July (after the previous said post), August made a new community post in the form of a poll about what new content the viewers would want. As of 12/01/2024, August has not uploaded any other media to the channel, and seems to be primarily focused on his main channel AugustTheDuck, and his gaming channel DuckTheAugust. August has yet to upload another video on The Ballistic Bird channel.

Controversies

Feud with Dhar Mann

After Dhar Mann made a video where he talked about people who were critical of him, many fans of Dhar Mann flocked to August's video "Dhar Mann Just Keeps Getting Worse" and he received a mass amount of dislikes and negative comments. August reacted to them, calling Dhar Mann manipulative for targeting children with his unrealistic videos and the messages in said videos.

On April 17, 2022, Carlos Chavez, one of Dhar Mann's actors, would make a video where he reacted warmly to August's videos.

Feud with Cooking With Jack

On February 19, 2024, August found out about Jack's past of almost murdering/abusing his son, citing that the reason why he didn't find out sooner was due to "paranoia of clicking on links on Instagram DMs". He also apologizes for missing Jack's past despite the possibly huge amount of people telling him about it.
