Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) is a Japanese[1] rock band formed in 2010 that specializes in kawaii metal, heavy metal, J-pop, power metal and alternative metal.
History[]
BABYMETAL was originally a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin, a Japanese idol group until 2013 when Suzuka left and produced her first debut album a year later. Suzuka's singing impressed producer Kobametal, who then recruited Kikuchi and Mizuno as her backup screamers, despite none of the trio having any familiarity with metal music.
On January 9, 2013, the band debuted on a major record label with "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" which catapulted them to fame and has led to collaborations with other huge metal band giants.
The band's music style is backing up vocals with heavy metal instruments, and the lyrics focus on real-world issues mixed with themes of self-empowerment.
