The Baltimore Orioles are an American MLB team based in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.
History[]
At the end of the 1900 season, the American League removed itself from baseball's National Agreement. Two months later, the American League declared itself as a competing major league. As a result of several franchise shifts, the Orioles, who were then called the Brewers, were one of only two Western League teams that did not fold, move, or get kicked out of the league, the other team being the Detroit Tigers. In its first American league game, it lost to the Detroit Tigers, with the tigers getting one more point.[2] To this day, it is a major league record for the biggest deficit overcome late in the game. At the end of the season, it finished last.
In 1902, it relocated to St. Louis, and enjoyed some success, especially in the 1920s, behind first baseman George Sisler, however, the team's fortune declined from then-on.
In 1954, it decided to change its name to the Orioles and relocate itself to Baltimore, after owner Bill Veeck sold it to the Miles-Krieger-Hoffberger group.
