The 2008 Summer Olympics, (Chinese: 2008年夏季奥运会) officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, and also known as Beijing 2008 were an international multisport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China.

In 2001, a total of 10 cities submitted their bids to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. Bangkok (Thailand), Cairo (Egypt), Havana (Cuba), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Seville (Spain) did not make the IOC's short list.
Osaka (Japan), Istanbul (Türkiye), Paris (France), Toronto (Canada) and Beijing (China) made it to the IOC's short list. Osaka got eliminated on Round 1.
On July 13, 2001, Beijing was awarded as the host of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

On April 19, 2006, beijing2008 created their YouTube channel. The first video was uploaded 2 days before the games began on August 6, 2008, titled "THE ICON OF CHINA".[2]
On August 24, 2008, beijing2008 would upload their second to last video, titled "Closing Ceremony - Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games".[3]
On June 22, 2017, beijing2008 would unexpectedly upload their last video, titled "Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony Highlights". The upload gap is almost 8 years.[4]

- This was the first time China had hosted the Olympic Games, and the third time the Summer Olympic Games had been held in East Asia, following the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
