―Beta Squad's outro

The Beta Squad is a group of five English YouTubers; Niko Omilana, Chunkz, Aj Shabeel, Sharky and KingKennyTv.[1] They created the Beta Squad on February 14, 2019.[1] It was announced that they were starting the group and were moving into a mansion together on February 22, 2019 on their social media.[1]

About[]

Beta Squad is a group based in London, England. Their videos are challenge style videos ranging from multiple different series such as:

"Who Can- " / "$10 vs $10,000-" / "Last To-" / "Guess The-" / "6 VS 1" / "Quizzes"

Their most viewed video is "GUESS THE BLACK PERSON FT KSI" which has amassed over 32 million views.[2] They have their own football club called "Beta Squad FC" and have had a game in September, 2019 against Yung Filly's team "Afillyates Club de Futbol".[3] They stopped posting in August of 2019 but uploaded again in February of 2020 before taking a break again due to lockdown.[4] They began posting regularly in October the same year.

History[]

Chunkz and Sharky started making videos together in 2015. Aj Shabeel was Chunkz's cameraman until he started appearing in their videos a few weeks later. Niko Omilana and KingKennyTv were making videos on their own channels and were friends at this time. Niko met Chunkz in 2016 and they started collaborating together. This was the same year where they all met each other.

In 2020, they moved into a mansion in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire where they filmed their challenge videos in public. When they introduced Beta Squad and it's members, fans wanted YouTubers like Darkest Man, Yung Filly, Loai and Johnny Carey to join the group.

Beta Squad House[]

In March 2019, Chunkz released a video that the Beta Squad are now living together.[5] In March 2020, Aj Shabeel revealed that the Beta Squad had once again moved houses for some unknown reason. In his video, Aj had elected himself as interior designer and decided to decorate the main living room. He set the living room up with Green LED lights, a new TV, couches and posters of each Beta Squad member.[6] In October 2020, Beta Squad released the house tour of their last house living together.[7]

In Johnny Carey's "I Was YouTubers UBER Driver for 24 hours!" video, King Kenny revealed that he had moved out of the Beta Squad house as to attend to his sick mother.[8] In April 2022, Beta Squad uploaded a video titled "Beta Squad Mukbang", where they revealed they were no longer living together as their landlord was involved in a legal dispute and the mansion was being "repossessed by the bank".[9]

Beta Squad Studio[]

Although not yet officially revealed by the Beta Squad themselves, in late December 2023, Konstantin released a video showcasing him and his team renovating a building for the Beta Squad. It was equipped with artworks depicting the Beta Squad, a table tennis setup, a kitchen, mementos, TVs, and a sneak peek at Beta Squad's new product—an energy drink.[10]

Controversy[]

Sikh Joke[]

Beta Squad uploaded a Youtube video titled ‘We Pretended To Work At The Grocery Store (Fake Employee Prank).[11] The store was being managed by a 19-year old Sikh man, who introduces himself as ‘Milan’ during the whole prank. Sharky is instructed by his friends to approach Milan and say ‘I think it’s Sikh that you are Sick’.

Beta Squad apology

Beta Squad apology

Beta Squad faced backlash from the community on their social media. However, the YouTubers were quick to respond to the backlash through their social media. Describing their actions as unintentional, they publicly apologized for their comments in their most recent video. ‘Religion shouldn’t be joked about and we apologize to anyone who was offended by our comments’, they added. They also wrote that sometimes ‘things seem to be a good idea’ but now that they look back upon it, they realize how poor it was.[12][13]

Trivia[]

  • Niko Omilana and KSI shook hands that The Beta Squad vs Sidemen charity football match were to be scheduled on early 2023 if the video managed to get 1,000,000 likes.[2] However, this is unlikely to happen even though the goal has been reached as it is speculated that the rest of the Sidemen members didn't agree with KSI's decision. Miniminter had said that "It's not gonna happen".[14]
  • Beta Squad once released a trailer depicting a Top Gear themed video. However, the video has since not been released.[15]
  • Beta Squad has one deleted video titled "First Team To Escape The Handcuffs Wins £10,000 Challenge"[16]. It is presumed to be deleted as the video showed Kaynan, the Beta Squad cameraman being in a fight with a stranger who had punched him earlier. The pair were soon arrested and released.
  • Sharky is the one who made the channel name "Beta Squad".[17]
  • Beta Squad had scheduled the release of "Find The Gold Digger - Harry Pinero Edition" for December 10, 2023, but the video was not uploaded. Subsequently, both the social media post and trailer were removed. Instead, "Beta Squad: Quiz of the Year" was released several days later.
  • Niko invited Johnny Carey to be the sixth member of the Beta Squad and live with them, but he rejected the offer, opting to stay at his own home with his girlfriend at the time.[18]
