Richard Maurice Stanley-Barnett[1][2] (born: October 16, 1985 (1985-10-16) [age 39]), better known online as BlastphamousHD TV (usually abbreviated to BHD), is an American YouTube reactor, vlogger, musician, commentator and gamer.

History[]

Personal life[]

Barnett was born in Compton, California on October 16, 1985. At one point in his life he lived in Cleveland, Ohio, and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School. He has at least 3-4 siblings, with one of them running another channel called "KT-TV". At the time of Barnett's popularity in 2016, he stated that at the time, he hadn't seen his youngest sibling in years, due to her being heavy into drugs.

In a GTA V gameplay video he revealed that he has aquaphobia. He told a story about a time when he was 11 years old, he was watching an episode on Discovery Channel, which involves underground creatures in the ocean. One episode had a giant squid swim across the screen and it scared him so much, it traumatized him. He also told a story of how when he was a kid, he had allegedly fallen off of a cruise ship, which greatly contributed to his aquaphobia.

YouTube career[]

Beginnings (2008-2013)[]

Barnett created his first YouTube channel, maurice barnett, on March 2, 2008, followed by his gaming channel BlastphamousHD Gaming on June 5, 2013.

Rise In Popularity (2014-2017)[]

Barnett would go on to create BlastphamousHD TV on November 12, 2014, BlastphamousHD Pranks on November 30, 2014 and BlastphamousHD TV 2 on November 6, 2015. Because they are primarily reaction channels, they are set up accordingly with the majority of their content in response to various videos on YouTube.

On some occasions back in 2015 and 2016, these videos had to be reduced to YouTube's standard 15-minute limit as he monetized them and got copyright notices as a result. Commenters have repeatedly pointed out that his videos increase by the duration of the original video, which is refuted by many who argue that the extra time is spent adding content to the video for him to pause. He was praised for this method of reaction.

On October 27, 2016, Barnett uploaded a video called "i Google Myself.....CANT BELIEVE THEY WROTE THIS!!", in which Barnett googles "BlastphamousHD wiki" with this Wikitubia page as the first result. He gave praise to anonymous writers who covered his VidCon turmoil, saying that whoever wrote this was awesome.

On August 12, 2017, Barnett uploaded a video called "GOOGLING MYSELF!! OUR ACTUAL NET WORTH." in which he and Randy encountered this Wikitubia page again when he was interested in his net worth.

Channel Termination and Downfall (2018-Present)[]

On April 22, 2018, Barnett's main reaction channel, BlastphamousHD TV, was terminated for violating YouTube’s terms of service. At its peak, BlastphamousHD TV had 2.4 million subscribers, making it one of the largest channels ever terminated and the 2nd largest terminated channel at the time. Barnett has since continued to upload on his gaming channel and second reaction channel, which became his new main channel.

Most of Barnett's new content on the second reaction channel started out as reacting almost exclusively to Family Guy Try Not To Laugh Challenges. He has since stopped exclusively reacting to Family Guy and has incorporated a larger variety of content onto the channel. Despite this, Family Guy still has a major presence on the channel and is still frequently reacted to by Barnett.

Many fans and former watchers of Barnett have felt that the quality of his reaction videos dropped significantly after his main channel was terminated, with Barnett becoming notorious for forced laughs, overreactions, and obnoxious behavior. This is a stark contrast to his once renowned reactions back on his main channel prior to it's termination. Many fans also attribute Barnett's ego and his falling out with his former friends as major reasons as to why the quality of his reaction videos significantly dropped, with his former friends on their channels making videos as to why their relationship with Barnett ended in such an acrimonious manner, such as those from Chavezz, Dr. Girlfriend, and Dr. J and the Women.

Although Barnett has occasionally reuploaded old videos himself, most of his old reaction videos have been re-uploaded by archive channels such as BlastphamousHD Archive or KyleYT. The BlastphamousHD Archive channel has since been removed, either by termination or other reasons. Other archive channels have been created in its place, but haven't reached the size of the original which had either 800,000 or 900,000 subscribers at the time of its removal.

Formerly, Barnett occasionally would be joined by some of his friends and family to react to videos with, such as Dr. J & The Women (Randy Jackson), ChavezzSlovakia (Chavezz), Brandi P., and his brother KT-TV. His mother also appeared in some of his videos. However, numerous life events and falling outs led to the end of the friendships with his friends. Randy made a brief return and appeared in some videos before he too severed ties with Barnett, while his brother has and continues to make numerous appearances. Barnett also makes frequent appearances on his brother's channel.

Content[]

Over the course of Barnett's YouTube career, he has found various ways to expand his content other than gaming and reactions in a wide range. Some of these ways include a cooking show, compilations of his own clips, pranks, and even starting a music career under his stage name "Yung Child Support".

BHD Storytimes[]

Aside from reactions, Barnett also uploaded 120+ storytime videos in an ongoing series known as "BHD Storytime". In this series he described various events that took place in his early life such as getting into fights, questionable situations, and various humorous highlights in his lifetime.

A few of his most iconic stories are:

  • How I Lost My Virginity To A Man-Girl: Back in High School, Barnett was at a summer party and met a social outcast named Bobby Jo. She was constantly bullied for having a boy's name, but became good friends with Barnett because he comforted her. Later, they both snuck into her father's car that was parked in the backyard, and they both had sex. Everyone at the party found out about it, which eventually caught the attention of Bobby Jo's father. He chased Barnett out of the backyard and into his local neighborhood. Barnett and Bobby Jo remained good friends after the fact until they lost contact.
  • Kids Tried To Shoot Up My School: Back when Barnett attended Thomas Jefferson High School, at 14 years old, there was a group of bullies ran by a student who went by the nickname Smoke. Smoke's gang was called "The Socs Gang", named after the gang from The Outsiders. The gang included Smoke, a kid named Rondrell, Smoke's older brother, and three other unnamed people. The people in the gang were in it either because they wanted the fearful reputation Smoke was getting, or they were afraid of him. Smoke never lost a single fight (a good example of this is the story where Smoke bashed the head of another bully because she made fun of his girlfriend), which resulted in everyone at school, including the teachers, being afraid of him. One day in particular, Smoke and his gang made fun of this student at the school named Crystal. Crystal called her boyfriend over to the school, whose name was Chris, and managed to beat up the entire gang in front of the whole school. Chris's reputation increased while Smoke and his gang's reputation decreased. The gang eventually stopped showing up to school out of humiliation. Three weeks later, during one of his classes, Barnett began to notice half of the students at the school running out of the school building and escaping into their neighborhoods, which confused Barnett. The principal of the school then went to announce over the P.A that school was cancelled for the rest of the week. The following week, after returning to school, Barnett asked the school's security guards why school was cancelled for a whole week. The security guards then told Barnett that one of them noticed that Smoke and his gang snuck into the school with semi-automatic guns, meaning they had intention on shooting kids at the school. Barnett then states that the only known targets was Crystal and Chris (as Chris drove by the school everyday to pick up Crystal). Smoke and his gang was expelled, and Barnett states he doesn't know what happened to them afterwards. Barnett then claims he eventually ran into Rondrell five years after the story takes place. Upon being asked what happened to Smoke by a fan in a June 2023 livestream, Barnett responded by saying that he is most likely either dead or imprisoned. In the video "3 Creepy True School Lockdown Stories REACTION!", Barnett stated that Chris, and Smoke's three unnamed gang members might be dead by now as well, however he believes Smoke's older brother is still alive somewhere doing football stuff.
  • How I Lost My Job And Nearly My Life: Barnett used to work for a company called C3[3], where he worked with two girls that didn't get along with him. Barnett eventually made fun of one of the girls for harassing him, which upset her even more and called her boyfriend over to deal with him. After Barnett's shift, the girl's boyfriend showed up with several other friends of his. The boyfriend threatened him, and Barnett, who didn't want to show fear, decided to square up with the man. This confused the boyfriend and his friends, because they expected Barnett to be scared. Eventually, a gang full of girls showed up in their cars with guns, which scared the boyfriend and his friends off, as neither the gang or Barnett knew who any of those girls were. A week later, the company fired Barnett once they found out about his social media[4].

The authenticity of the stories has come into question, with many believing that they are either fake or true but greatly exaggerated.[5] Barnett has also dabbled into the genre of animated storytime videos, uploading a few of them. These are not the first animated videos he has made though, as he has uploaded several animated videos on his gaming channel. He and his friends formerly produced skits, with one notable example being his horror mixtape skit[6].

Gaming[]

On his gaming channel, he has played a wide variety of video games, such as Overwatch, Five Nights At Freddy's, Grand Theft Auto V, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and many others, but with little to no original content added.

Pranks[]

On his prank channel, Barnett would upload videos of himself pranking his friends, pranking his former girlfriend, or of himself getting pranked. He would also upload vlogs and extra story videos to this channel. Since 2016 however, Barnett has abandoned BlastphamousHD Pranks. The channel went from a fairly consistent uploading schedule from 2014-2016, to only four videos in 2017 (ironically one of those videos was about Barnett saying he would bring back pranks), one video in 2018, and one final video in 2019.

BlastphamousHD TV Try Not To Laugh challenge[]

Part of Barnett's older reaction content from 2015 to 2017 were his Try Not To X Challenges, in which X is substituted for Laugh, Get Scared, Cry, or Just Wait. In May 2016 Barnett came up with his own Try Not To X Challenge, known as the BlastphamousHD TV Try Not To Laugh Challenge. The challenge was for his subscribers to remix his videos and intentionally take them out of context, making it look like as if Barnett had stated very controversial yet hilarious things. Each video submitted needed to be longer than 5 minutes. His subscribers would than send these videos either via email or Twitter to him so he could react to them.

Notable subscribers who participated in the challenge include Jagged Salad, SMG4, Hunter1s1k, CMBGAMER 2018 TV, and Bownsir. The challenge in its prime lasted from May 2016 to early 2017, but many persisted and sent him these videos long after in spite of this. The final one Barnett reacted to was on May 26, 2018, over one year after the initial challenge ended and exactly two years after it was created.

Trivia[]

  • Barnett could have as much as 3 Gold Play Buttons and 5 Silver ones, making 8 total. Barnett has yet to confirm he has received all of these play buttons but it is possible he has them due to BlastphamousHD TV being terminated well after he reached a 100,000 and a million subs.
    • He would have 3 gold play buttons getting 1 million from BlastphamousHD TV, BlastphamousHDTV2, and BlastphamousHD Gaming.
    • He would have 5 Silver Play Buttons from reaching 100,000 subs on the aforementioned channels along with Maurice Barnett and BlastphamousHD Pranks.
  • He started to get into the music industry under his stage name "Yung Child Support"; the name derived from one of his BlastphamousHD Try Not To Laugh challenges, where a subscriber, Bownsir remixed his videos and had jokingly had the name Yung Child Support. • You can currently find his music in streaming platforms, but the title tracks are named differently.
