Controversy[]

Being Transgender[]

In early October 2019, Paytas announced she was a female-to-male transgender gay man through a YouTube video titled "I AM TRANSGENDER (FEMALE TO MALE)". Paytas received backlash for the video (which has since been deleted), with many social media users, including Vicky Vox, claiming Paytas did not understand what being transgender meant.

In response to Vox, Paytas tweeted, "You don't know me, my journey, my struggle, my transition. I’ve been with a gender identity therapy specialist for the past 6 months cause I hated who I was since I was 3. Think before you tweet, THIS is more harmful than me sharing my story."

The same week as the announcement, Paytas apologized for the language she used in the video but confirmed she still identify as male. A re-upload of the video can be found here.

In April 2021, she announced she identified as non-binary and began using she/they pronouns.[5]

Dissociative Identity Disorder[]

In March 2020, Trisha claimed to have Dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) and described several "alters" (personalities). The DissociaDID system (collective of personalities) reacted to her video, calling it "misinformed," "outdated," and "stigmatizing." AnthonyPadilla, who had recently uploaded a video interviewing systems, including DissociaDID, also criticised Trisha's video.

Trisha posted a response to Anthony, accusing him of "pretending to be some sort of mental health advocate," and then dismissing her self-diagnosed condition.

she made comments about DissociaDID, calling the system "crazy." On March 16, 2020, she uploaded a video where she claimed to experience a "switch" of personalities on camera. Commenters pointed out that the "switch" was exactly of videos by other YouTubers, including DissociaDID, who responded. On March 22, Trisha uploaded a video titled 'DissociaDID please stop bullying us,' saying that DissociaDID had allowed Trisha's system to talk about her mental illness. In the description, she linked to a video accusing DissociaDID of faking the disorder.
