Bullet for my Valentine is a Welsh heavy metal band formed in Bridgend, Wales in 1998.

History[]

Formation & various EPs[]

The band formed as Jeff Killed John in 1998 by Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget, Nick Crandle, and Michael Thomas while studying at Bridgend College. In 1999, the band released their first EP, Better Off Alone, via Potential Records. The EP contained four tracks. In 2002, the band released their second EP, Eye Spy, containing two tracks and was self-produced. In 2003, the band released their third EP, Don't Walk Away, which contained four tracks and was also self-produced. Crandle resigned a day before sessions took place for a fourth EP and Jason James took over as the next bassist. Later in 2003, the band released their fourth EP named after the band itself, containing five tracks and once again being self produced. After releasing four EPs, the band changed its name to Bullet for My Valentine. The purpose of the band's name change was due to their aggressive approach in heavy metal music.

Roadrunner Records drew interest in BFMT and offered the band a deal, but nothing came about. BFMT eventually signed a five-album contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment along with a UK licensing deal with Visible Noise. An EP named after the band's name change was released on November 15, 2004 in Europe and the United States. It was also released in Japan on July 20, 2005. The EP contained five tracks, while the Japanese release contained a bonus sixth track. Another EP titled Hand of Blood was released exclusively in the United States on August 22, 2005 via Trustkill Records. The EP included six tracks.

The Poison[]

BFMT released their first studio album titled The Poison on October 3, 2005 in England, January 30, 2006 in Japan, and February 14, 2006 in the United States. Development for the album took place at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, England and Nott in Pill Studios in Newport, Wales. The album included thirteen tracks. Singles were "4 Words (To Choke Upon)", "Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do)", "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)", and "Tears Don't Fall".
