Calgary Flames is a Canadian NHL team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.[citation needed] They currently play for the Pacific Division in the Western Conference.[citation needed]

On May 24, 1972, they was created as an attempt to upstart World Hockey Association, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, with the name Atlanta Flames.[1][2]
In 1980, they moved to Calgary to address financial difficulties.[1]
In 1989, they won their first Stanley Cup title.[citation needed]
