Controversy[]

Drugging and Robbing at Strip Club[]

In March 2019, Cardi stated in a resurfaced video from 2016, that during her time working as a stripper when she was 19 years old, she drugged and then robbed men who tried to have sex with her.[3] She stated she regrets it and only did it as a means to survive and earn money.[4]

Assault lawsuit[]

Cardi was on trial in August 2025[5] regarding a civil case in Los Angeles over allegations of assaulting former security guard Emani Ellis during a confrontation at a Beverly Hills medical office in February 2018.[2] The lawsuit claims Cardi spat on Ellis, scratched her face with her fingernail, mocked her weight, used racial slurs, and attempted to hit her after Ellis allegedly identified her as she was leaving the doctor's office.[6] Cardi denies the physical assault, asserting that Ellis was the aggressor and that she was attempting to prevent the guard from recording her private medical visit.

Cardi's legal team argued that the confrontation was initiated by Ellis, who allegedly tried to record Cardi as she entered the building while Cardi was four months pregnant and trying to keep her pregnancy private. Cardi testified that she was not the aggressor and that Ellis was physically threatening, using a line of questioning about her hair to challenge her credibility.[7] On September 1, 2025, a California jury unanimously found Cardi innocent in a $24 million civil lawsuit.[8]
