Chad Meredith Hurley (born January 24, 1977 (1977-01-24) [age 47]) is an American Internet entrepreneur known for being a co-founder (with Jawed Karim & Steve Chen) and former CEO of the video-sharing website YouTube and MixBit.

Hurley founded YouTube in 2005 with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. Hurley was primarily responsible for the tagging and video-sharing aspects of YouTube. On October 9, 2006, Chen and Hurley sold YouTube to Google Inc. for $1.65 billion. He would continue to be CEO until October 29, 2010 when he stepped down. He would be replaced by Salar Kamangar.

Personal Life

He was was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to Don and Joann Hurley. He has an older sister named Heather and a younger brother named Brent. He grew up near Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. He is married to Kathy Clark.

  • In June 2006, he was voted 28th on Business 2.0's "50 People Who Matter Now" list.
  • His father-in-law is James H. Clark, founded several notable Silicon Valley technology companies, including Silicon Graphics, Inc., Netscape Communications Corporation, myCFO, and Healtheon.
