Francheska "Cheska" L. Ferrera † (December 22, 2004 – March 31, 2023 [aged 18]),[1] better known online as Chesy Arts, was a Filipino YouTuber known for her animation videos that revolved around CountryHumans and her original characters.

Personal life[]

Ferrera was born on December 22, 2004,[2] alongside twin sister Francine, or "Frans" in Quezon City, Philippines. Both are YouTube artists, with Francheska primarily focusing on digital art, while Francine focuses primarily on painting, specifically watercolors.

Before her death, Ferrera was involved in several school productions and acted in short films, and provided animations for some of them. She also participated in cheer practice.

Death[]

On January 3, 2023, Chesy posted her last video, which was a New Year's compilation of her Crush Series. She did not post since then and was presumed to be in a hiatus due to her schooling and the time needed to produce her animatics (as many animated videos can take up to at least a month per video).

On April 1, 2023, Raffy Tulfo, the current serving senator of the Philippines, who runs the popular news broadcast channel Raffy Tufflo in Action News, reported an incident involving Ferrera in an interview with her parents Fritzon and Shirly Ferrera.[3]

According to her parents, on February 25, Ferrera was at her high school cheerleading practice and thrown into the air to perform a move, but was not caught in time in a manner that made her hit her head upon descent. According to her sister Francine, Ferrera felt nauseous and had ringing in her ears from this accident, and could not move her eyes properly. Francheska was told to stay home due to her symptoms, but decided to go to practice anyway and had to return home due to her symptoms worsening. A check up was performed later that day.

During another practice, Francheska was once again not caught properly and hit her head again. Due to not realizing her exacerbated injury was an internal one, the coach advised her to massage it and treat it rather as if it were a concussion, and did not further advise any other sort of medical treatment, which was also further delayed due to the closure of the clinic. But despite knowing Francheska was injured, the coach then reassured her to power along as to not "affect team morale", and reportedly guilt-tripped Francheska into continuing or else she would "ruin the cheer dance". Her peers would then protest to have Francheska rest, but the coach instructed Francheska to continue, further exacerbating her already sensitive injury until she passed out on her way to the faculty office. She fell into a comatose state from her fainting.

The second fall led to an argument between her parents, the teacher/coach, and the school, as her parents wanted the school to compensate for her hospital bills due to the delay of her treatment. After a period of time in her coma, Francheska passed away on March 31 due to her skull fracture and internal bleeding/hemorrhaging.[4][5]

On May 28, 2023, Tulfo released a part two, continuing the coverage of Ferrera's accident, this time including Francine.[5]

On June 24, 2023, Francine uploaded a video to Chesy's channel, a short film titled Sinigang, that Chesy had made for a school project. In the description of the video, Frans stated she will also be releasing more videos of Chesy's old unreleased projects in the future whenever she has time.[6]

On July 9, 2023, Francheska's mother, Shirly, posted a picture alongside Francine of Francheska's grave. [1]

On November 28, 2023, Francine uploaded a tribute to Francheska on the channel, entitled "I MISS YOU 🕊️", and is about twenty-three minutes long. The first five minutes entail a compilation of Francheska and her family, which slowly shifts to a voiceover from Francine regarding the situation as well as recounting her moments with Francheska.[7]

Channel Owner[]

The running of the channel appears to be have been taken over by Francine. On January 27, 2024, Francine uploaded the first video unrelated to the death of her sister, continuing one of her sister's series.[8] On February 2, 2024. Francine posted the first short on the channel.[9]
