Chicago White Sox is an American MLB team based in Chicago, Illinois, United States.

History[]

In 1894, the White Sox were founded in Sioux City, with the name the Cornhuskers. In the same year, Charles Comiskey bought them and moved them to St. Paul, Minnesota, and renamed them the Saints.

In 1900, with the approval of Western League[Note 1] president Ban Johnson, Comiskey moved them to his hometown neighborhood of Armour Square, Chicago where they changed their name to the White Stockings.

In 1901, they won the first American League championship.

In 1904, they changed their name to simply, the White Sox.

In 1919, they were involved in a scandal, in which eight of the players lost the World Series on purpose to gain some money from a group of gamblers. They accepted this deal because they felt that they were not being paid enough by their manager. Afterwards, all eight of them got banned from the sport forever. This scandal is called the "Black Sox" scandal.
