―Nathan Vetterlein (Scout)

Nathan Vetterlein, (born: November 20, 1982 (1982-11-20) [age 41]) better known online as ChiliOfDestiny, is an American writer, voice actor, gamer, and vlogger on YouTube. He is most famously known as the voice actor of the Scout from the popular 2007 video game Team Fortress 2.

History[]

Before YouTube[]

Before becoming active on YouTube, Nathan did voice acting for the Team Fortress 2 character, the Scout. The game was initially released in 2007. He would later go on to provide the voice of the Scout in the in-game lines for Meet the Team animated shorts, and other Valve promotional material involving the Scout.

Team Fortress 2[]

In Team Fortress 2, the Scout is the first of the many offensive classes to pick out of the total nine characters in the game. Within the game lore, the Scout's name is Jeremy. He is a fast-running scrapper with a baseball bat and a snarky "in-your-face" attitude. He is the fastest and most mobile mercenary on the battlefield unassisted. His Double Jump leaves slower opponents such as the Heavy struggling to keep up and helps him navigate the terrain while dodging incoming projectiles. Carrying a Scattergun, a Pistol, and a Bat, the Scout is an ideal class for an aggressive fighting and flanking play-style. The Scout is a great class for quick "hit-and-run" tactics that can either sap away enemies' health or kill them outright due to his ability to get in, do damage, and dash away before even being noticed. However, the Scout is tied with the Engineer, Sniper and Spy for having the lowest health of any class, leaving him vulnerable when he is on the front line; a fair trade-off for his ability to run in and out of a contested hot-spot very quickly, letting him lead the team to victory without the other team even noticing in time.[1]

YouTube[]

Nathan became active on YouTube in 2016, starting with vlogs where he would show himself voicing the Scout's lines and other content in the Scout's voice. He would ocassionally try to sing in the Scout's voice, such as the Pokemon theme song, and even songs considered as memes, such as We Are Number One.   On multiple occassions, Nathan would read the official Team Fortress 2 comics, dubbing his voice for the Scout's lines in the comics. He would also stream on TF2 servers while speaking in-game with the Scout's voice, often surprising the players. Nathan's vlogs are also widely regarded as a "free real estate" for Source Filmmaker (SFM) animators to obtain voice lines for the Scout in their videos. On the other hand, Nathan himself contributed to Mind Games, an animation by SFM animator The Winglet.

Trivia[]

  • Despite voice acting for Scout, Nathan mains as Heavy in Team Fortress 2. This is because he's bad at playing as Scout.
  • Nathan was DDoS'ed on stream by a user named " VALVE Twilight Sparkle ". At the time he had no idea of this until later in the stream and has since addressed it.
  • Nathan is a huge fan of the Power Rangers series as he made a skit video about " Punching himself in the stomach ".
