Chilling Tales for Dark Nights was founded by Craig Groshek of Plover, WI in 2012 to promote a self-published book that remains unreleased. The channel is devoted to doing dramatic readings of popular internet horror stories (i.e. creepypastas) and classic horror literature such as the works of H. P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe.

Additionally, they host short films from a variety of filmmakers including Brandon Christensen, Bloody Cuts, and Jason Hornack.

The channel prides itself on using original music and a larger amount of sound effects editing than many other dramatic reading channels. As of December 4, 2016, it has accumulated over 160,000 subscribers and more than 16,000,000 views.

In addition to founder Craig Groshek, the most prominent readers for the channel have included:

Jeff Clement: Performed Psychosis and The Swing. Long-running sound editor and producer for the channel departed in 2016 due to schedule conflicts.

Jesse Cornett: Performed Russian Sleep Experiment and Call of Cthulhu. Also a sound editor for the channel and producer of both Chilling Tales' podcasts.

Otis Jiry: Performed the largest number of videos for the channel, including Tailypo and Home, the latter of which was a collaboration with MrCreepyPasta.

Jonathan Jones: Performed Birthday at Freddy's, The Tapping Next Door, and Jeff the Killer. Performed sound editing for the channel.

Heather Ordover: Performed The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Milk Teeth.

Podcasts[]

In January 2016, Chilling Tales partnered with Podcastone.com to produce a Chilling Tales: The Podcast hosted by Steve Taylor and produced by Jeff Clement and Jesse Cornett. By September 2016, the podcast was dissolved due to irreconcilable differences. In October 2016, the channel launched the spinoff Simply Scary podcast hosted by G. M. Danielson and produced by Jesse Cornett and Craig Groshek.
