Of Welsh descent, Martin was born in San Isidro in 1971, to a curator father and a teacher mother. He lived his first years in Argentina, where he started a newspaper at the age of six and, later, studied media at the Universidad del Salvador, while working in the newspaper Página Norte. At the same time, he began a career as a rugby player at CASI, a club in whose first division he made his debut at the age of eighteen.
