Cleveland Guardians (formerly known as Cleveland Indians) is an American MLB team based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

History[]

In 1896, the Guardians were founded in Columbus, with the name Buckeyes. They were part of the minor Western League.[2]

In 1897, they changed their name to the Columbus Senators.[3]

In the middle of the 1899 season, the Senators moved to Grand Rapids and became the Furniture Makers.

In 1900, the Furniture Makers moved to Cleveland and became the Lake Shores.

In 1901, they changed their name to the Bluebirds.

In 1902, they changed their name to the Bronchos.

In 1903, after many unsuccessful nicknames, they changed their name to the Naps, due to their manager Nap Lajoie.

In 1915, they changed their name to the Indians, which was their longest lasting name.

In 2022, they changed their name to the Guardians, and their logo, due to racism allegations.

They created their channel on August 18, 2015,[1] and uploaded their first video on October 2, 2015, titled "Indians come back from 12-run deficit to win".[4] On March 11, 2022, they uploaded their first short, titled "Valera Hitting 1".[5]

  1. Robinson's number was retired all throughout MLB, but grandfathered to those who had the number at the time of retirement.
  2. It was retired in honor of Indians fans after the team sold out four hundred fifty-five consecutive games.
