Coldplay is a band that was formed in 1996 by Chris Martin[1] (born: March 2, 1977 (1977-03-02) [age 47]) and Jonny Buckland (born: September 11, 1977 (1977-09-11) [age 47]) . The band was later joined by Guy Berryman (born: April 12, 1978 (1978-04-12) [age 46]) and Will Champion (born: July 31, 1978 (1978-07-31) [age 46]) shortly after the formation, and is currently managed by a non-preforming member, Phil Harvey (born: August 26, 1976 (1976-08-26) [age 48]). Currently, their latest album is called Music of the Spheres, which was released on October 15, 2021. Coldplay is very well known for many of their hit songs, such as Viva la Vida, which was released with the album of the same name in 2008.

History[]

The band was originally started in the University College at London back in 1996. At the time, Coldplay was known as Starfish.

The band's name was changed from Starfish to Coldplay because Chris and Jonny had friends who played in a band that did not want to use the name Coldplay anymore. As a result of that, Starfish was renamed to the latter. As time went on, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion eventually joined the band.[2]

Coldplay had held their first live gig on 16 January 1998, at a pub called The Laurel Tree.[3] However, at this time, they were still known as Starfish.[4]

A few years later in 2000, the band eventually released their first album, Parachutes, which is one of their well-known hit albums. The band started to rise in popularity in the mid-2000's, being noted for their unique musicianship by many people around the world.[5]The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios, Matrix Studios, and Wessex Sound Studios with producer Ken Nelson, although the majority of Parachutes' tracks were recorded at Liverpool's Parr Street Studios (where they used three studio rooms). American engineer Michael Brauer in New York mixed all of the songs for the album.[6] During that time they played on the Carling Tour, which showcased up-and-coming acts.[7]
