The Columbus Blue Jackets are an American NHL team. They are currently based in Columbus, Ohio, United States, and they currently play for the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference.
History[]
On November 1, 1996, five hockey investors partnered up to try to attract an NHL team to Columbus. They called their partnership Columbus Hockey Limited.[1]
On January 13, 1997, they made their first formal presentation to the NHL.[1]
On May 31, 1997, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company announced their plans to privately finance a hockey arena in Downtown Columbus.[1]
On June 25, 1997, the NHL awarded Columbus with the chance to make their own expansion team, along with Nashville, Atlanta, and Saint Paul.[1]
In 2000, they played their first season.[1]
