Most Muslim nations have blocked YouTube because of a controversial Islamaphobic trailer for a movie called The innocence of Muslims YouTube has failed to take it down. It was unblocked after the video was taken down.

There is no reason why it was banned in Turkmenistan, but some point to the fact that a video of the president of Turkmenistan was falling off a horse was uploaded on the platform.

YouTube, along with most of the Internet, is banned in North Korea as the government there fears its people will find out the truth about their country, as there are many videos discussing the truth about North Korea. The same is true for China, although there are alternatives to YouTube that users have access to. Despite these reasonings, there are multiple government run channels, most prominent in Iran and North Korea, that are up today. Only government officials have freely access to YouTube in these countries.
