Daniel Robert "Dan" Middleton[1] (born: November 8, 1991 (1991-11-08) [age 33]),[2] better known online as DanTDM (short for Dan The Diamond Minecart; formerly known as TheDiamondMinecart, TheDiamondMinecart // DanTDM and PokemanDanLv45[3]), is an English[4] YouTuber and Twitch streamer who is known for his Minecraft gaming series, as well as other video games, including Roblox, Fortnite, Among Us, Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon.

Personal life

Dan was born in Aldershot, England,[5] and around 2007, he was part of a punk rock band called “Band Of Brothers.” (B.O.B).[6] He is married to Jemma Middleton, and they used to do videos together (e.g Husband vs. Wife Survival and Husband vs. Wife mini-games).[7] Dan and Jemma have also owned three pugs; Ellie,[8] Darcie,[9] and Peggy.[10] So far, it is known that Ellie was 9 years old[11] and Darcie is 10 years old.[12] Peggy's age is unknown but it is believed she was around 5 or 6 years old but is now sadly deceased.[13] Dan has also fostered multiple pugs until they gained owners.[14] In his recent video, Dan stated that Ellie sadly passed away in September of 2023.[15]

He has two children, a five year old boy (born January 5, 2020) named Asher,[16] and another son named Miles, (born November 22, 2022.)[17] Asher's face has not yet been revealed, and Miles' face will not be either.

Dan married his girlfriend Jemma on March 17, 2013, who also plays Minecraft.[18] On December 10, 2013, when the channel exceeded one million subscribers, Dan uploaded a Draw My Life video, explaining many personal things about himself.[19]

On September 28, 2015, Dan made a video where he explains that he swelled his pinkie finger, and the knuckles were out of place, and can not move it at all. Dan explains how he broke his hand, and says he was at his kitchen where he slipped, and his pinkie hit the corner of the table while falling, dislocating his pinkie finger. On that day, Dan went to the hospital, got some X-Rays, and was wearing a cast on his arm.[20]

The next day, Dan went to the hospital again, and his knuckle was forcefully popped back in place but had to wear a hand cast for the next 4 weeks to help keep his dislocated knuckle straight.[21]

On October 1, A Minecraft game developer, McMakistein, made a lobby only sent to DanTDM called, "The Broken Hand Map Challenge". There are 9 levels in the game, and the game is where you are not supposed to hit any of the walls, but hit the spider webs. If you hit the wall, you have "Broke your hand", and you have to retry the level. And if you get to the spider webs, you complete the game. Your character moves for you, and you go faster and faster every time.[22]

On October 26, Dan's hand cast was cut and removed from Dan's hand, and now has full function in his hand to use, as the cast was keeping his dislocated hand straight.[23]

On August 17, 2019, a video was posted to Dan’s channel titled “We Have a Secret To Tell You...”. In the video, It was announced that Dan and Jemma were expecting their first child.[24] On January 9, 2020, Dan and Jemma both announced that their son, Asher Middleton, was born on January 5, 2020, at 10:33 A.M., however, Dan and Jemma made the decision to not show his face on camera due to privacy reasons.[16]

Dan's second son, Miles, was born on November 22nd, 2022. Dan and Jemma had kept him a secret from their fans until after he had been born. They had also decided to keep his face from the public the same as they had done with Asher.[17]

Controversy

Lunchly criticisms and feud with KSI

On September 16 2024, it was announced that MrBeast, KSI, and Logan Paul announced a collab for a Lunchables competitor known as "Lunchly."[25] The collab was widely criticised, not only due to the involvement of MrBeast amid recent controversies in his career, but also due to the food itself being incredibly unhealthy and targeted towards kids (featuring Prime, Feastables chocolate, and a "variation of food"). The most notable critic of which was of course Dan, who made a tweet saying:

Many in the community were taken aback given Dan's near spotless reputation and past refusal to engage with drama of any kind, but the sentiment of his tweet was felt by many with it accumulating over 600,000 likes.

In response to Dan, KSI (along with MrBeast and Logan) made their own responses. While MrBeast attempted to explain the reasoning behind the collab[27], KSI and Logan instead went on the offensive and began to angrily insult and respond to him.[28]

KSI in particular called Dan a hypocrite, as he had sold merchandise to his fans like action figures and Youtooz, but he was quickly shut down by critics, who pointed out that Dan's critiques were aimed at the unhealthy food that was being aimed at kids who don't know any better (it was also pointed out that KSI had also worked with Youtooz in the past[29]). KSI then responded by pointing out a sponsored video Dan made for MunchPak 9 years ago, which received a worse response given Dan did not have a hand in creating MunchPak, and many pointed out the absurdity of trying so hard to dig for dirt on Dan that he had to go back 9 years to find a video on his third YouTube channel[30]. It was also pointed out that getting on Dan's case for working with a bad partner was incredibly hypocritical, given KSI was working with Logan Paul and MrBeast, two of the largest and most controversial figures on YouTube. KSI would upload a video on September 22 about the situation, which received immense negative backlash.[31]

The Lunchly feud was also speculated to be the reason DanTDM's part was removed from Minecraft Live 2024.[32]

Dogs

  • Ellie †, was Dan and Jemma's first pug, she was born on October 18, 2013. On September 6, 2023, Ellie unexpectedly passed away.[33][34]
  • Darcie, is Dan and Jemma's second pug, she was born on June 21, 2014. Her first appearance was in a video called "MEET DARCIE THE PUG" and according to Dan in the video, Darcie's previous owner couldn't keep care of Darcie so Dan and Jemma decided to adopt her.
  • Hugo, a pug Dan and Jemma had fostered until he got an owner.
  • Trinity, a pug Dan and Jemma had fostered until she got an owner.
  • Peggy †, a third pug Dan and Jemma found wandering in the snow and rescued. Jemma replied to a fan on Twitter when they asked what the pug's name was and she replied, 'Her name is Peggy'. Peggy had a condition called syringomyelia, where her skull is too small and has fluids press on her spine. On September 17, 2017, Dan said that they had to put her down and sadly, in very heartbreaking cries, he told his viewers that Peggy died that day.[35]

MC Championship

In 2020, DanTDM participated in Noxcrew's and Dangthatsalongname's MC Championship event, an event where YouTubers and streamers would come together to play a wide variety of fancy minigames. The tournament consists of 10 teams and 40 players, featuring a variety of custom minigames. The prize is a special MCC coin by Noxcrew.

DanTDM first debuted in the competition at MCC11, which was Halloween themed.

  • MC Championships 14: Yellow Yaks. Teamed with Sylvee, Krtzyy, SB737. Placed 25th individual and the team placed 5th overall.
  • MC Championships 15-17: Did not participate
  • MC Championships 18: DanTDM would've competed in MCC 18 on Team Blue Banshees with PeteZahHutt, PearlescentMoon, and 5up. But he was replaced by Kara Corvus due to an illness. The team ended up placing 6th overall.

Mod Showcases

Dan started this series on August 22, 2012, and it is still ongoing to this day, albeit very rarely. Mod Showcases are recommended among most people because while he gets involved with the Mod and shows it off, he sometimes even makes a storyline to help your understanding the mod and to make it funnier. His Mod Showcases are normally where he adds his characters, most often Dr. Trayaurus. Trayaurus is known for being a scientist but also switches jobs according to the storyline (e.g. The McDonald's Mod Showcase). He apparently isn't very intelligent according to Dan, probably because he didn't go to school when he was a little villager. Dan currently has slowed down Mod Showcases production to mainly focus on Custom Mod Adventures and One Command Creations. His mod showcases mostly take place in Dr. Trayaurus' Lab. The Mod Showcases are Dan's oldest series to this date and this series has over 400 episodes making this Dan's biggest series to date. In April 2019, Dan decided to revisit his old videos and made a new video showcasing mods after getting over 18,000 likes on his Twitter post. His video showcased 5 mods in total. the official theme music for this series is called Antoine lavenant street fighter (dubstep remix) .

Diamond Dimensions

A mod pack modded survival made by Dan on April 20, 2013, that adds a bunch of new dimensions and mods to Minecraft. The aim is to visit as many dimensions as possible. At the moment, the series has 259 episodes. It's on the break as there aren't many Minecraft mods and Minecraft mods take a long time to make, so Dan stopped the series and is going to make a new one, dubbed Minecraft Misadventures.

Season 1

During the first season, some of the main mods included were the Twilight Forest Dimension, Grimoire Of Gaia 2, The Atum Desert Dimension, The Eternal Frost Dimension, The Lion King Mod, and the Galacticraft Mod. One of Dan's faithful companions is Far, a pig farmer born by a Human Egg from the My People Mod.

Season 2

Season 2 of the Diamond Dimensions started at Episode 72. This time, the Diamond Dimensions has 62 mods and is now for 1.6.4, however it's not available for public release, yet, as Dan would need to ask permission from over 25 modders. One of the bugs is when using a sword with sharpness as mentioned on his Twitter (@DiamondMinecart), which was fixed later on. He recently got a spider pet, which sadly, his son Craig killed, and a battle pig named Baconator. He had multiple attempts to have a second child, but the first baby glitched, and then the next one got killed. Fortunately, he has successfully created a daughter called Trinity. His son Craig had a wife named Stephanie, but she died at the same time as his 3rd child, Alexis by the Uvaraptors, which Dan calls "rainbow-chickens". Following, after some trips to the Erebus Dimension and death, his daughter Trinity permanently ran away, making Craig his only child during this season.

Season 3

Season 3 of the Diamond Dimensions started on Episode #135. There are 45 mods and it is made possible for 1.7.9, but is still not ready for public release yet, as Dan has to seek permission from over 30 modders. Dan had decided on some new fresh air, so this was the first season to restart the Diamond Dimension series. On Episode #145, while Dan was searching for gun powder, he finds his son Craig and his wife Rosalie had died from a raid of hostile mobs. The raid also killed all of the fellow villagers. Dan has also visited the Haven Dimension and he also made a jetpack to travel around and prevent himself from falling. Later, he changed it with the Morph mod and Keeses (a bat in the Zelda mod). Unfortunately, the link to download the mod pack leads to an Error 404 page. The series seemed to stop being made, as he doesn't want to play Minecraft as often as he used to play. The last episode was uploaded on March 9, 2016.[1] However, as mentioned above, there is a new replacement for this series.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Dan started a Pocket Edition series on October 4, 2015, after he broke his hand and couldn't play Minecraft on PC. Currently, in the series, he has two dogs and a crazy cat that continuously jumps on his bed. He travelled to the Nether but where his portal put him was pretty terrible as he was close to the top of the Nether and the fall would kill him if he jumped down (which it eventually did). On Episode 18, he inadvertently found a dungeon with a spider spawner. There are now 24 episodes where he then stopped after his cast was taken off. Then, sometime at the end of 2016, Dan has made a new video of him playing Minecraft: Pocket Edition, albeit in a new world as his old world is now gone. He made 'a house' in a cave, which contains a bed, a chest where his stuff is kept, and a crafting table. He has made two live streams of the game, in which the goal is to find diamonds and build a proper house. In the first Livestream, he found diamonds at the real end of the stream. In the second one, he made a nice house for himself. It is unknown if he is going to continue making the series in the future.

Story Mode

Dan's Minecraft: Story Mode playthrough was a very popular series. He started the series in October 13, 2015, and ended the series on September 13, 2016, after he finished playing the final episode of the game. He has played every single episode. In the playthrough of Episode 4, this is the first time we get to see Dan has cried on camera, which was when Reuben the Pig died. He also became the voice actor for his own character for Episode 6 of the game. The Season 2 playthrough is also finished.

Misadventures

A combination of Diamond Dimensions and Custom Mod Adventures. Up until October 23, 2017, he has made a total of 3 episodes.

SMPs

Shady Oaks SMP

Dan started a new SMP series, uploading its videos on both YouTube and Twitch. It was initially started by Dan, Thinknoodles, iBallisticSquid, ThnxCya (his friends), iHasCupquake (former co-founder of MC Championship), JeromeASF (a former member of Team Crafted), Bigbst4tz2 (a Minecraft and Pixel Gun YouTuber), and ECKOSOLDIER (a Minecraft YouTuber and Reactor). Dan has built a gambling stand, a bakery and they have a large mansion. He has a Diamond Sword named "Big Slice" and a Diamond Pickaxe named "Peppa Pick". The series is active and ongoing despite Dan not making any videos about the server recently.

TommySMP

Dan joined Tommyinnit's SMP, TommySMP on December of 2021 and has only made one video on it so far.[37]

CrazyCraft 3.0

Dan started the series CrazyCraft 3.0 along with his friends Thinknoodles and ThnxCya as a temporary series for The Diamond Dimensions on May 23, 2016. He currently is living in a coffee mug near his friends, has 2 girlfriends, the Easter Bunny, the Prince Dragon, a full set of ultimate armour, the ultimate shovel, the ultimate pickaxe, the ultimate sword, a bunch of ants, Dr. Trayaurus, 4 inventory pets who are Cecil the Banana, Pac-Dan, an unnamed gravestone pet and Thediamondminecloud. He even has a Slice which is almost the best sword in the game and has the Royal Guardian Armor, which is the best armour in the game. The series ended in 31 episodes and it was replaced by another new series called Pixelmon Trinity.

Minecraft Hardcore Survival

Dan created his Minecraft Hardcore Survival world on July 28, 2019. He has made his Hardcore world all by himself and no help. In that series, he lived on a floating castle above a cloud. Dan then later expands the castle, giving it an extra room commonly known as the storage room. Dan was surprised that he finally had built a storage room that was organized as he, later on, says he never did that in any of the series. He has successfully killed the Ender Dragon twice and has needed no help with it at all. The same applies to the wither. Dan had figured out an easy way to suffocate the wither and give your free nether stars. He then built 4 beacons below his turtle living facilities, which he later removed. In that series, he has a main horse called Buddy which he then renames to Sir. Buddy. He then got another horse called Slow Horse. The reason behind calling him slow horse is that Dan though he was quite slow, hence that name Slow Horse. He had a llama called Incredillama, and a dog named Bones. His hardcore world is set in the snapshots, meaning he gets new content early for his viewers. For example, he released a video for the snapshot on Caves & Cliffs update, featuring copper, amethyst geodes and more crafting recipes such as candles.

On April 3, 2021, Dan uploaded his final episode in his Minecraft Hardcore Survival Series. He unfortunately died to a Vex while, ironically, trying to get infinite Totems of Undying. The series lasted for a total of 850 Minecraft days, 1.5 real life years, and 81 episodes.

On August 1, 2021, DanTDM uploaded the first episode of his Minecraft Hardcore Season 2 series.[38] His new raid farm built in the 9th episode was successful as he did not die in the process.[39] As of October 2022, the series has 9 episodes.

The Sims 4

Dan started this series on September 5, 2014. It has very good reviews. There are a total of 6 sims in the household. There are 2 families: Dan and his wife Katrina, and Dr. Trayaurus, his wife Bristol and their 3 children, Herbert, Ralph, and Amira. Ralph and Amira were both twins and they were called Rambunctious Scamps. Not many things have changed since, though Dan did age up Ralph and Amira. The series went on hiatus but went back as a new series, where he would set off a business with the newest expansion pack of the game, Get to Work. Ralph was (supposedly) killed by embarrassment while Dan was waiting to try out Trayaurus's newest job. Ironically, Ralph's death was seconds after Dan agreed to himself that he'd move Ralph and Amira out. Dan then gives his character the Doctor career which has so far been a success. Since Episode 11 of getting To Work, Dan stopped the Sims 4 and started the Sims 2 instead. He started a mini-series on The Sims 4: City Living, however, that ended 3 episodes after. When The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs released, he did a live stream about Trayaurus and his Pug and Cat. His most recent Sims 4 video was a strange mods video.

Roblox

He started the series on January 31, 2016, and the series has over 100 episodes. Dan stated that Roblox is one of his favorite/favourite games as it very much reminds him of Minecraft. His username in the game is called DrTrayblox, which is an obvious reference to his scientist friend, Dr. Trayaurus. After Dan started playing Roblox, it has caused Roblox to get more popular and got flooded with fans. The series has been ended on YouTube but not yet on his Twitch as he played Roblox Arsenal on most of his streams.

In "I got exposed... again", Dan stated that he got bored of Roblox, and he doesn't want to make a video out of it if he doesn't enjoy the game at all. However, he briefly played it again once more, making three more videos of its games being Rainbow Friends and DOORS.

YouTuber's Life

This series has a total of 11 videos and he started this series on May 18, 2016. On December 29, 2016, he did one last episode with him completing the game by travelling to space. He went on and became a fashion YouTuber.

FNAF World

Dan started the series on January 22, 2016, as a lot of his fans had been requesting him to play a Five Nights At Freddy's game since he first played Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Dan filmed his last episode on June 17, 2016, beating the whole game on and the series ended with 16 episodes.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location

Dan started the series on October 8, 2016. He played Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location due to the reason that fans want him to do a Five Nights at Freddy's series, and Dan 'thanked' his fans for convincing him to play it. It was positively received and became one of the most famous series of his. After finishing the main game, he continued the series with the Custom Nights, trying to see what it has to offer.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach

Dan started the series on December of 2021. The game is the latest FNAF game to be published by Steel Wool Studios after Scott Cawthon retired from the FNAF series. It's about a boy named Gregory who is accidentally locked inside Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. There, he meets Glamrock Freddy, who helps him try to escape the Pizzaplex and help him from being caught by the other animatronics and the nightguard, Vanessa.

Riddle School

Dan started the series on May 2, 2016, with Riddle School 1 and ended it after he finished the final game, Riddle School Transfer on May 26, 2016. It was a short but very popular series. In the final credits in the game, the game creator Jonbro thanked Dan and other channels for playing his games.

Tomodachi Life

Dan started the series on May 5, 2016. In, early 2017 Dan stated that he wanted to play the game a long time ago but he couldn't have the things to record his gameplay with. But he has recently started to play it again, as the problems are now solved. He said that the series would return when he continued Miitopia. After that, he stopped for a long period of time, before uploading a streaming video on June 24, 2018.

Hello Neighbor

Dan started the series on October 31, 2016. He first played it during it's Alpha 1 stage. Since Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location got very outstanding reviews he started searching for a horror game he could play and stumbled upon Hello Neighbor. He read up on secrets about the neighbour to uncover those secrets in each video.

Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek

Dan made 2 episodes on the new game by the creators of Hello Neighbour. It is about the neighbour's son playing hide and seeks that took place before the original Hello Neighbour. In the comments section of the first episode, TurkeyBoy55, a YouTuber who helps Dan with the original Hello Neighbour, came back to help once more. He finished the game and was horrified by the ending.

Secret Neighbor

Another game made by the creators of Hello Neighbour and Hello Neighbour: Hide and Seek, Dan played this game together with Jemma, Thinknoodles (Justin) and Thnxcya (James), including the Halloween and Christmas versions in 2018.

The Escapists 2

Dan started the series in 2017 when the Beta version came out to the full version. Until 23 October 2017, he has escaped 6+ prisons. His nickname in the game is DaRealDanTDM since there was already a prisoner called 'Dantdm'. He finished the game including the Wicked Ways DLC and the Christmas Prison DLC on 15 December 2017. The most recent Christmas DLC prison was completed in December 2018 too.

Miitopia

Dan uploaded 3 videos at first until he stopped playing it. As many viewers commented, wanting him to bring back this series, he brought it back on 20 November 2017. He announced to complete the rest of the game as streams. Dan hasn't played Miitopia since December 27th, 2017, and we can expect he won't make a video on it for a long time unless he pays attention to his fan base asking him to return to Miitopia.

Fortnite: Battle Royale

Since this game was very popular at the time, he decided to try it out. He admits that even though he likes to play the game, he sucks at playing it and has now won 200 times.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator

Dan started the series on December 6, 2017. Similar to his FNaF World and Sister Location playthrough, it has become a very popular series as Dan's fans seem to like seeing him playing Five Nights at Freddy's games and horror games in general. Up to December 7, 2017, he has made two gameplay videos of the game. He has completed 3 endings by February 2018.

Subnautica

A survival game Dan started, he plays it in live streams. He made 20 episodes up until May 29, 2018.

Subnautica: Below Zero

The sequel to Subnautica, Dan played it due to his love for the Subnautica series he made.

Granny

Another horror game on the mobile, Dan started the series on medium mode and completed the game on 9 April 2018. He also made a video on Granny mods, where he cloned granny, made himself superfast, etc.

Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu

Dan got this game including the Pokéball Plus when "Pikachu" delivered it to his house. He made a video of him unboxing it and gave Jemma the Eevee version.

Untitled Goose Game

Dan played this game after watching the trailer. His first video garnered many likes, thus he continued with a second video and made it to the end of the credits.

Marvel's Spider-Man

Dan played this game on the 8th of September, 2018, a day after the release date. He completed the game and DLC, and even said that he's never been so interested in a game before. He made 12 episodes on it and it ended on the 21st of December, 2018.

Pokémon Sword

Dan started his adventure as his customized character with his starter Pokémon, Grookey, and ended up being the champion of the Galar region. He continued on in the Isle of Armor DLC pack released in June 2020, where he caught a level 80 Wailord with a Dive Ball.

Among Us

Dan plays this game with Thinknoodles, ThnxCya and a ton of other Youtubers after it got popular and even tried out the Proximity Chat mod and Prop Hunt mod. One of his videos is where he decided to prank Fortnite Twitch Streamer CourageJD by pointing out he was the impostor.

In another video, Dan gets stream-sniped by FGTeeV after he watched him livestream and decided to snitch him as the impostor.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Dan played a standalone game on 11th November 2020, and finished on the 21st. He made 8 videos on it, and also streamed it on Twitch.
