dednahype is a Latvian TikTok personality and YouTuber. At one point, he was one of the most followed people on TikTok, and has been growing ever since.
Content[]
dednahype makes comedy and drama sketches that usually involve a trio of a father, a son, and a homeless man in a monster costume (some people have likened his appearance to that of Corey Taylor from Slipknot). Usually, these sketches involve the father doing deeds such as hard work or charity from the kindness of his heart, in some cases to earn money for his narcisstic son. In the early sketches the focus was solely around the father and son, but at some point dednahype decided to incorporate a third character, a homeless man wearing a frightening mask, who comes to the aid of the father when he witnesses him being a victim of his son's elderly abuse. The sketches also tend to have loud autotuned music played in the background that speed up during dramatic moments.
Outside Tiktok, he was relatively unknown, until Cody Ko made a video called "My New Favorite Tik Toker"[1] on the 10th of October in 2020, where he reacted to dednahype's videos, calling him "the Eastern European Dhar Mann, but with a smaller budget". He found the videos hilarious, and praised the messages sent about respecting the elderly.
On his YouTube channel, dednahype uploads his Tiktok videos, while also vlogging about his work for the homeless people of Latvia. He is also a musician, and released his first music video entirely in Russian[2]. In a behind the scenes video[3], him and his son revealed that they make the videos to teach viewers to help people in front of you no matter what, and that being a good person is worth it.
Due to his fame, dednahype has collaborated with many other famous Latvian Tiktok stars like the Latvian sisters.
Characters[]
Father[]
The father is the main character of the skteches, played by dednahype himself. A kind and gentle old man, he strives to give his son the best life possible, despite his old age and fragility. He is kind to people even though they repeatedly abuse him. In some sketches he has a daughter[4] and another son.
Son[]
However, the son tends to be ungrateful, narcissistic and selfish, often acting rude to his father and disrespecting him, such as one sketch where he threw his father's birthday gifts back in his face. The son likes to wear designer clothing, and is obsessed with material objects such as phones and cars, always wanting the newest models of said items. He does not appreciate his father's efforts to give him a good life. He may be part of the Latvian mafija as he recruited his friends once to beat up his dad.
Masked homeless man[]
The masked man is a homeless man who for some reason wears a horror mask and an apple watch (he also tends to dress like a stereotypical "emo", like wearing ripped jeans, hoodies and dark clothing). He is shown to be apathetic to the world, until the father commits an act of kindness by giving him food while he was homeless, and not judging him by his appearance. Being touched by the action, the masked man comes to the aid of father whenever he is in danger. In one sketch, the son attempts to assault the father, but when he sees the masked man approaching him with a baseball bat, he panics and runs away. In another scene, he gets angry and tries to assault the father, but calms down after the father gives him a snickers. Sometimes he wears a Joker mask.
