Digital Cynics is an American tech news and gaming collaboration channel founded by a YouTuber named Blake Schneiderhan[1] in 2017, however, he only posted one video before being joined by his cohost, Brendan, who has been with the channel ever since. The channel posts twice weekly videos, switching between Blake and Brendan as the hosts, covering gaming news, tech product reviews, and some tutorial videos related to tech or gaming.

Content[]

The channel's most popular videos include various tutorial videos for setting up additional functionalities for VR headsets and tech reviews for gaming chairs, tech reviews of computer peripherals and gadgets. These videos tend to be short, lasting between 5 and 10 minutes. They also post occasional videos on current events and news in gaming - these videos tend to be shorter, lasting between 2 and 5 minutes. There is no clear pattern to the posting scheduling in regards to which kind of video will be posted, but they tend to post videos on Mondays and Fridays.

Intermittently, the channel will also host live streams. While these were originally drunk gaming videos where one or both hosts would stream for approximately 1-2 hours, the pair have moved to a more regular, approximately once monthly schedule of streaming a gaming and tech news podcast, with the gaming streams being moved to their second channel, Digital Cynics Gaming.

History[]

The channel was founded on February 17, 2017 as Digital Cynic. Only one video was posted at that time, a tech review of a keyboard, before the channel went on a 2.5 year long hiatus. On October 13, 2019, a video simply titled "Reboot"[2] was posted. During this tongue-in-cheek video, Blake is seen walking back and forth in front of the camera, nervously talking to himself about whether or not rebooting the channel is a good idea. The video ends just as Blake introduces himself to the audience. A pinned comment under the video by the channel, as well as a Facebook post from the same day[3], indicate that he will be joined by a new cohost. Brendan's first video on the channel, a product review on a gaming chair, was posted about 1 week later on October 21, 2019[4].

Trivia[]

  • After going through Pokémon card packs for notable cards, Blake will give the extra cards to his son to use in deck building.[5]
