Ryan Burke (born: November 5, 1997YouTuber who initially specialized in reviewing media, critiquing other YouTubers and covering art drama, later transitioning to interviewing online animators and creating lookbacks on the history of their work.
), known online as Dovendraw, formerly DaftPina, is an AmericanRyan created his channel on February 25, 2015, and his format began as simplistic reviews of cartoons he would watch and critique. He then made videos reviewing other creators during the rise of "story-time animators" in the mid-to-late 2010s. The majority of his videos consisted of himself reviewing content and providing feedback and insight as to how the subject's artwork and video style can improve based on his opinions and impressions of their work.
His content gradually changed format in the coming years, becoming more objective as he creates deep-dives of a chosen subject's independent portfolio or pivotal moment in their career.
Content[]
Ryan's content mostly consists of varied criticism, covering the history of an idea, or interviewing the creator. In addition, He occasionally reviews various drawing tablets, YouTuber merchandise, and even his old videos. Each video is organized by sections he deems fit to talk about. This may include the art styles, personalities, positive traits, and merchandise options of a particular YouTuber or animation.
Ryan's video persona used a slow speech pattern and monotone voice, one that he comments on as being "funny" to himself. Many times he would spontaneously pause in between sentences, sometimes more than once, as if dragging out his thoughts more slowly to pester or to amuse the audience.
This led to mixed opinions from his viewers, with some noting that his slow speech made the videos hard to watch, others praising the uniqueness in his "lifeless and bored" persona.
Ryan had since stopped the slow speech, opting for a faster cadence. This also drew mixed reactions from his viewers, with some noting he needs to "slow down."
Pizza Party Podcast[]
August 20th, 2022 Ryan and Jakeneutron would join Pan Pizza on the rebooted Pizza Party Podcast. Izzi8bit and Jim Gisriel would not return as hosts, however Jim would appear in a new episode as a guest. Ryan would be the editor, thumbnail creator, and social media manger while Jakeneutron would make art for the show. This would last until February 10th, 2023 reaching twenty episodes. Ryan and Jakeneutron would be kicked off the podcast late February with Neoncaffeine, Dumbsville, and HilmWonder replacing them as hosts.[1] The name would change from 'Pizza Party Podcast' to 'Parasociety' [2]however in early March they would cancel the podcast without making an episode.[3]
BadTakeDelete[]
May 13th, 2023 Ryan and Solidjj would start an animated podcast called 'BadTakeDelete.' Overtime they switched from using a PNGTuber program to match lip sync to Adobe Character Animator with puppet rigs. January 27th, 2024 they would add another host ValentinebabeVA along with updated character models. The show features a multiple camera set-up of the animated rigs in order to provide real time editing for people talking.[4] There are currently thirty-eight episodes and counting.
Other Channels[]
Ryan's second YouTube channel, Extra Daft, used to showcase similar content to his main channel, though with a more laid back and casual style per video. His content was more loose and did not follow a specific theme like his main channel. In this second channel, Ryan had reviewed music videos, Mario video games, video game magazine from the 90's, etc.
As of 2022 the videos have been unlisted, now infrequently posting animations. These had mixed to negative opinions with viewers, who call him a "terrible artist." These comments extend to his newly drawn profile pictures.
Controversy[]
JaidenAnimations[]
Back in 2017, Ryan posted a video titled 'How Jaiden faked her 'Face Reveal', in which he discusses Jaiden's face reveal from April 6, 2017. The video gained a lot of backlash when he critiqued Jaiden's video by stating that Jaiden's face reveal was fake/insincere, even questioning the validity of her eating disorder. Commentary channels like Quinn Curio, who would later become his friend, would critique him for this video. A year later after the video was posted, Ryan tweeted out to Jaiden to apologize for his actions and took down the video. Jaiden accepted his apology.[5] He would later take down other subsequent videos about the animator as well as apologize to her dad at Vidcon 2019.[6][7] Ryan would later cite his critiques over the face reveal being due to his own insecurities with his surgery/body.[8]
Tracing[]
Despite criticizing creators such as Antoons and ChillyPanda for Tracing, Ryan himself used to do the same thing on his old account, Derpcouch3,[9] with him talking about it in his own videos.[10] Some of the tracings included NSFW as revealed by Twitter/X user Yokomation. When he was 15, Ryan traced an anime girl, with people criticizing him for being a hypocrite as many assumed he called out Tinafate1 because they drew NSFW.[11] However in a statement says he is not against NSFW.[12] the Tweets would be gone after Yokomation deleted his Twitter/X.
Tinafate1[]
On July, 2021, Ryan accused NSFW artist TinaFate1 of being a Groomer. His allegations included saying that TinaFate1 was a groomer because as a 19 year old, he had a sexual conversation and exchanged nudes with a 17 year old under false pretenses.[13] It was later revealed the minor was lying about their age as they were actually 16 years old. TinaFate1 originally claimed he did not know the age of the minor and doesn't consider it grooming.[14]
He was called out for this by Spooky Weebtrash, Nicholas DeOrio and AugieRFC amongst others.[15] Ryan tweeted out the connection that David was pretending to be a lesbian cis-woman showing a blurred Facebook page as well as David's own Discord servers' posts regarding his personal life.[16] It was later revealed that David, as their own admission, was a cis-guy using a woman persona for three years on Twitter/X and Discord.[17] TinaFate1's friends and Discord server members were unaware he was faking his identity, meaning that David had tricked the minor, as well as his friends, by pretending to be someone else.[18] GamesCage commented about this on Twitter/X.
Many Twitter/X users noted similarities to Tinafate1 and Luulubuu. He was called out again for possibly endangering David and his family's lives, with many people citing his actions as doxxing, as in David's apology he asks people to not harass his family. Within the apology David says he is sorry for "using a persona" though doesn’t mention the minor. Since his apology, no instance has been shown by David or others of a 'dox' nor harm being done to his family.[19]
On October 28th, 2021, Ryan released a statement revealing information and clarifying the rumor that he only went after David for a NSFW drawing of Sora from Kingdom Hearts was false. Something that was speculated as at the time David made the art.[20]
In February, 2023, Ryan would make a video about what happened with David. As of this time the video and tweets he made about the artist remains up.[21] David still posts on Twitter/X with no mention of the controversy since.
Feud with LS Mark, Just Stop and Ricepirate[]
On February 11th, 2023, Just Stop, also known as Braxton released the video "Clearing The Air", where he addresses his prior video about LS Mark and his wife Veronica’s relationship[22], going into detail about how she cheated on Mark as well as keeping him around while she was sleeping with other guys.[23] Braxton claimed that DaftPina was the driving force behind the video and proceeded to cut him out of his life entirely. Many argued that Braxton had thrown all the blame on DaftPina and didn't own up to his mistakes. Doc on the Radio, who interviewed Braxton, showed inconsistencies between his live debate[24] and the Video he ended up making.[25]
DaftPina would release a now-deleted response video showing DMs citing a few clarifications.[26] Braxton came to him about making the LS Mark video, and on numerous occasions told him he didn't have to make the video. He also stated that he wasn't the only one working on the script with Braxton, clarifying that MangaKamen amongst several others participated and that Braxton never mentions their names within his video. DaftPina also reacted to a now-deleted video by Veronica about the situation, where Veronica clarified that Ricepirate[27] wanted a relationship with her.[28][29] DaftPina had found out that Mark had been leaking his animated pilot as well as making fun of him behind his back. He did this with his friend SonnyTM in a Discord server alongside Veronica and SecretNarcissist. Sonny had previously worked with DaftPina on a cartoon pilot that has yet to be released, and later leaked parts of the pilot on his channel citing that he hated working on it, as he thought it was terrible.[30]
History[]
Leaving commentary drama[]
On May 18th, 2023, Ryan released a video called "A Personal Video." In the video he goes into detail regarding his 2016 corrective surgery and how it affected his mental state, claiming that his pain at the time caused a general negative outlook on the world, further theorizing he critiqued animators because he himself was incapable at the time of creating art. He attributed a lot of the negativity of his earlier videos to this, though clarifies it is not an excuse for his words.
Specifically noting his videos over Jaiden Animations, and TheOdd1sOut, he says that he was very harsh on them amongst many other people he talked about. He claims to have been seeing a therapist and cut off previous unnamed friendships, saying he feels happier than he has ever been. After the video released, he unlisted most of his drama-related videos.
This video received mixed to negative reception with some people claiming he was faking and/or bringing up his medical issues for sympathy, or being disingenuous.
Present[]
Shifting focus from critique and controversial online figures in 2023, Ryan has rebranded as a voice and spotlight for independent animators. In these videos, he analyzes the history and evolution of a chosen subject, creating a comprehensive deep dive on their unique or viral work and occasionally conducting an interview with them for more extensive knowledge, if able.
In the beginning of 2024, Ryan solidified the rebranding by changing his username to 'Dovendraw,' a play on the words "dive in draw" [31]
Notable web artists Ryan has covered include Gooseworx, HotDiggedyDemon, Tara Billinger and Zach Bellissimo of Long Gone Gulch, Aaron Long of Sublo and Tangy Mustard, Glitch Productions, and Speedoru (SpeedoSausage).
