Dr. Vivek Bindra (Hindi: डॉ॰ विवेक बिंद्रा; born: April 5, 1978[2] is an Indian[1]entrepreneur and educational YouTuber who uploads motivational and business-related videos on YouTube.
)Career[]
In 2010, Bindra started his first business, a coaching and trading firm after returning from the ashram.[3] While working for his ventures, in 2019, he launched an ed-tech startup named Bada Business, aimed at providing online business training to small entrepreneurs. After the COVID-19 lockdowns were put in place, the company developed its online infrastructure and advertised itself as able to adapt people to the "new normal." In 2020, it broke five Guinness World Records within six months.[4]
In 2023, the company was accused of running a pyramid scheme, recruiting students for a fee of ₹50,000, and asking them to recruit new students in exchange for a commission.[5] The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on 28 December released a public statement advising against purchasing the course.[6]
Personal life[]
Vivek was born and raised in Delhi, where he was raised by his grandfather after his father passed and his mother remarried.[7] He completed education from St. Xavier's School, and after receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, received his PhD at Amity University.[3] He then stayed at an ashram in Vrindavan for four years studying scriptures and spirituality, before returning to create his first business.[8]
He is a father of two, and has been through one divorce with his first wife Geetika Sabharwal.[9][10] Eight days after his wedding on 6 December 2023 with his second wife Yanika Bindra, Bindra was charged on accounts of domestic violence.[11]
Controversies[]
In 2018, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) sent a defamation notice to Bindra and claimed a sum of ₹50 crores in damage, pertaining to his video "Indian Medical System की असलियत" where he remarked doctors as 'murderers in white coats' while revealing unethical sources of income in the medical industry.[12][13] A case was launched by the Joint Action Council of Service Doctor Organisation (JACSDO) to the Delhi Court later that year, which dismissed the complaint, claiming that the video did not contain anything defamatory against doctors.[13][14]
In January 2022, Bindra was booked in Amritsar for posting an animated video of the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, deemed blasphemy, and distorting Sikh history. After the legal notice, Bindra sent written apology to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs.[15]
On 14 December 2023, eight days after their marriage, a police case was registered against Bindra by his second wife Yanika's brother, accusing him of assaulting her, allegedly by locking her up in a room and screaming abuses into her ear, leaving her unable to hear properly. Bindra and his relatives were then taken into questioning.[16][11]
Sandeep Maheshwari[]
On 11 December 2023, motivational YouTuber Sandeep Maheshwari uploaded a video titled "BIG SCAM EXPOSED", exposing a supposed pyramid scheme operated by a group of guidance counsellors. Two testimonies were called on stage to speak about tactics used by the multi-level marketing scheme of the coaching institute. This was followed by many other videos, all accusing Bindra of running a surrogate 10 day-MBA course, which is a pyramid scheme in reality.[6]
On 18 December, Bindra streamed live for about two hours, responding to the allegations and claiming that the 10 day-MBA course is absolutely free-of-charge, and that there are no instances of multi-level marketing at his institute. The next day, he filed a civil suit in Faridabad seeking the removal of Sandeep's video, but the court denied his appeal on 22 December.[17]
Subsequently, Bindra filed an appeal against the restraint order the same day, seeking liberty to publish content regarding Maheshwari, and further seeking removal of Maheshwari's video from 11 December. The appeal was however dismissed by the court on 23 January.[17]
On 15 January 2024, Maheshwari filed a lawsuit at the High Court of Delhi in response to "defamatory content posted by Bindra's agents," after which an ex-parte injunction was imposed on Bindra's associate Vikash Kotnala, restraining him from publishing any further defamatory videos against Maheshwari, and resulting in Bindra's defeat in the legal battle.[17]
On 28 December, a public advisory was released by AICTE, advising against purchasing the 10 day course, as the entire course spans two years and cannot be condensed into 10 days.[6]
