Ethan William A.[1] (born: September 7, 2009),[2][3] better known online as EVILETH4N[note 1], formerly SHADYD3MON and EthanIsD34d, is an Australian-based European[4] YouTuber, who is best known for his commentary videos on various topic, involving edgy humor and a harsh ranting style.[2] Since his recent controversies, Ethans content and his mental state have become increasingly concerning.
History[]
Ethan created his first YouTube channel in July of 2021 when he was about 11 years old, which was shut down in 2022. This channel was used by Ethan as a way of distracting himself from ongoing complex traumatic experiences.[5] This account was named 'imnotEthan' at some point,[6][7] but other than that, there is not much information on this now abandoned channel.
Ethan created his current channel on August 2nd, 2022 under the name ShadyD3mon, which was a name he randomly chose out, but was later changed to EthanIsD34d in 2023 before EVILETH4N later that year. Ethan later returned the alias SHADYD3MON, now in all caps, as his YouTube handle and alternate name. In his early days of his channel, he would be harassed by internet trolls, who would frequently mock Ethan for his mental health struggles. It was about a year into his channels creation when he would make a video mocking SSSniperWolf for the JacksFilms situation, as well as for ghosting a fan and child grooming, but Ethan's account would be given its first strike for harassment, which he perceived as YouTube making yet another attempt to protect her.[8][9] This would leave Ethan to fall back onto his second channel for a week, only for the main channel to be wrongly struck again within 90 days, only this time there was no reason given as to why, leaving Ethan at risk of termination.[8]
After the creation of the main channel, it would be followed by its descendant channel 2EE4[note 2] on October 15 the same year.[10] On this channel, Ethan would post shorter form content with the many characters he had, which many were eventually scrapped due to having too many characters to focus on. This was the channel Ethan would have to fall back on during his wrongful strike periods back in late 2023 to early 2024,[9] and during the months following the release of TEE4C. There isn’t much else to say about 2EE4, as a lot of the older content on the channel has been deleted/unlisted due to being 'cringe' or having outdated material.[11]
The EVILETH4N Chronicles[]
The EVILETH4N Chronicles, abbreviated as TEE4C, was first brought to light by a document Ethan made in mid 2024,[6][12] revealing that Ethan's existing trauma had resurfaced through cyberbullying not long after the creation of Ethan's first channel, where Ethan would overshare his trauma online as a way of dealing with his emotions when he would have been just 11 years old and lacking proper support systems. This would lead to prolonged harassment, trauma-focused mockery, abuse, threats, and even false allegations[13] online throughout the entirety of his internet presence, perpetrated by numerous individual accounts and their supporters over the course of 4 years, with the majority of them being run by people who claim to be adults and older teenagers. The 5 most notable people who have been harassing Ethan are YouTube users Wixtener, Aiko, Senchou, Stalka[note 3], and Miniydiscy.[6]
Ethan released a video titled "Stop ignoring my situation" in March of 2024, summarizing the basics of the situation.[6] Many people have argued that Ethan should leave social media for his own sake, but Ethan has refused to do so as in his words, "My channel is my last reason to keep myself alive under my circumstances".[14][15] Ever since Ethan broke the news, his mental state has grown increasingly worse, Ethan has shown more irrationality and confusion than ever before, has made many concerning posts to YouTube and Instagram, and has described feelings of anger, abandonment, heavy suicidality and disappointment towards the community for enabling the situation to continue for as long as it did, and ignoring the warning signs Ethan would constantly bring forth.[16]
Ethan also mentions other near-death situations relating to The EVILETH4N Chronicles, such as nearly suffocating to death during a panic attack, near overdosage, and even nearly being institutionalized.[6] Despite his attempts to seek help, Ethan's trauma has often been mocked, downplayed or completely ignored by those who were supposed to support him, including law enforcement.[6][17]
Personal life[]
Ethan has shared many of his life experiences outside of the internet. Most of these events were revealed through The EVILETH4N Chronicles as context, or through videos where he touches on mental health related subjects.[2]
Ethan was born on September 7th 2009, and came from Welsh and other British ancestries. Ethan mentioned on Instagram that he was almost strangled to death when he was born, or as he puts it, "spawnkilled".[18] Ethans father, who according to him was the favorite parent, took him around the hospital and got them both in trouble when Ethan was less than an hour old.[19] Ethan's father died when he was a young child,[20] said to be when he was a toddler, but it is also hinted that his father slowly died over a prolonged period of time. Later he would be manipulated into thinking that he was responsible for his fathers alleged suicide by numerous other people, including relatives, people online, and outsiders to his family, because quote: "Ethans father did not love or even want a son like him", which would resurface in later controversies.[21] Ethan also recalls having false memories and visions of his father dead with blood on his hands. The real cause of his fathers death was never mentioned, but Ethan, at times, seems to have a genuine belief that this so called 'suicide' is the truth, and that he is responsible in some way.[22][note 4]
Around the time of his fathers passing, Ethan and his mother would receive harassment and threats to their safety by people within the family, and Ethan's contact with all of his extended family was permanently cut off as a result.[21] Ethan's mother, while not having intent to harm Ethan, would be constantly angry due to stress, causing her to occasionally lash out on Ethan, which caused a lot of distrust in their otherwise fairly okay relationship.[21] Ethan also alluded towards having a younger stepbrother who he lost contact with, unspecified exactly how, and later based his character Alexander Williams off of him.
Ethan mentions that he had only ever gotten his physiological needs met, but his mental health, which Ethan mentioned was "skewed since birth", was never a major concern, and was often mishandled or outright ignored. He also mentions on his Instagram story facing "an entire childhood full of almost every kind of abuse"[23], predominantly inflicted by adults. When he was put into school, Ethan was severely bullied for his autism, physically and verbally abused by older students, neglected by teachers and caregivers, and was sexually harassed and assaulted by a girl in his grade.[24] He began to develop reoccurring violent thoughts which later manifested into OCD, and by age 7 he began to act hostile, disruptive and violent towards others or even himself when angered, even pulling a knife on a close relative.[25][note 5]
Ethan was ultimately diagnosed with ASD and ADHD when he was 7, later down the line he was diagnosed with C-PTSD, OCD and MDD.[21] He also reports dealing with insomnia and amnesia. Ethan says in TEE4C that his first attempted suicide was when he was 9 years old, and mentions having reoccurring thoughts years beforehand despite still being too scared to go through with it. Ethan mentions he has had many near-death experiences outside of attempts on his own life. He briefly talked about being terrorized by and almost losing his home to the Australian 2019 bushfires (Black Summer) and other natural disasters in "EVILETH4N answers your questions.. AGAIN", which he said was ironic considering that he wants to be a firefighter when, "or if", he grows up, heavily influenced by the occupation of his late relatives. He deals with takotsubo syndrome,[6] but it was never specified when it started.
Content[]
The content on Ethan's channels differentiate from each other.
On his main channel, EVILETH4N, Ethan's content consisted of 4–10 minute videos of him speaking through TTS[note 6], harshly criticizing Gacha life focused YouTubers, specific communities, and occasionally created rants on behavior outside the Gacha Life community, being mostly communities that revolve around YouTube shorts. In late 2024 to early 2025, he began to focus on issues he had with things outside the Gacha life community since he began to distance himself from it. Ethan often uses offensive humor and joking insults as a way of getting his point across, mainly in his newer videos. He also has a few older videos of non-rant related content.[26]
On 2EE4, alternatively named SD2, SHADYD2MON or 2E.TH4NZ, Ethan's posts are much different, the videos focus on a personal project Ethan created called SHADYD3MOS-0.[27][28] The channel has just over 5,000 total views in all of its public videos combined, but well over 10,000 with deleted and unlisted media.[29]
The EE4rchive channel was created in late 2024 and began uploading in 2025.[30] It is an archival channel that posts unreleased or deleted videos and content, there is not much else to say about EE4rchive.
Ethan also made an alternate account named smokedetector9 in 2023, but this account is not used for uploading content, or anything outside of personal use.[31] He also has a second Instagram account of the same name, where he posts images of his behind-the-scenes occurrences and creations.[32]
Ethans upload schedule is rather infrequent when it comes to making videos on both channels, uploading about twice per month, or as he puts it, "Once every 3 business years",[15] but community posts are much more frequent, where Ethan tends to share his opinions, images, and engages with his audience much more. Both his channels as of October 2024 have over 100k views, and well over 50k views in public, deleted and unlisted videos.
SHADYD3MOS-0[]
SHADYD3MOS-0[33] was a "boredom project" that Ethan created, a series taking place in the cold outskirts of Alaska in a large town named Barrkon (portmanteau of two real Alaskan towns—Barrow and Fort Yukon).[34] This series is hosted on his 2nd channel, it follows Ethan Williams, Xavier Myér and their colleagues in the emergency services.[35] SHADYD3MOS-0 is Ethan's current major focus regarding his content, after he went on semi-hiatus from his main channel in 2024, however, Ethan does not intend to fully finish the series due to lack of ideas, time, audience and other things.[36]
A major lore point of SHADYD3MOS-0 is the harm caused by Ethan Ryan Williams, the fictional derivative and persona of Ethan William A[37][2][38], and how his creator expresses his own violent and murderous hatred through Williams' character.[39][40] Ethan Williams is notorious for the destruction he was responsible for in SHADYD3MOS-0 as a direct result of his neglected mental health and unaddressed trauma from his past, causing him to not only act irresponsibly in his choices, but later spiral out of control after the deaths of his family, ending up being responsible for the deaths of many of his colleagues in some way, via criminal negligence or even outright beating them to death, before gruesomely taking his own life in 2013.[38][41] Ethan wrote his character in such a way to portray his own suffering with harm-OCD and his 'obsession' with violence, and how he fears he may harm people in the future because of his own withering mental state.[39]
Characters[]
- Ethan Williams: The central figure in SHADYD3MOS-0, and doubles as the persona of his creator.[39] An angry, violent sociopath working as a firefighter in the emergency services, acting as a second in command behind his colleague Xavier and higher ups. Ethan is described by his creator to be "a messed up man who made messed up decisions",[42] ultimately leading him to be the reason behind the events of the story. Williams is portrayed as being "either an airhead or a d*ckhead, no in-betweens", and is very rarely in a calm or happy state[43], relying on anger to stay balanced. Williams is a punching bag for his creator's own inner turmoil, and alike his creator, struggles with just as severe, if not worse mental health issues, which shape the majority of his personality.[44][38]
- Xavier Myér: Xavier is another primary focus of SHADYD3MOS-0, standing at just over 7ft tall with long dreadlocked hair and a skinnier build. Xavier is portrayed as an emotionless shell,[45] who has shown desire to feel happy when he got invested in firefighting at a young age. Xavier is now an assistant firefighter, but is still shown to have a lot of authority over his colleagues, and the wit to outsmart the entire station combined when he feels like it. Despite being amongst the primary focuses of SHADYD3MOS-0, Xavier is often overshadowed by the other characters due to his perceived "lack of personality"—which, paired with his arrogance, tends to drive others away.[44]
- Sean Myér: Sean is a fellow firefighter and Xaviers older cousin, a larger built man with shaggy brown hair, typically seen wearing bandages over his face. He works alongside Ethan and Xavier and helps out around the station by taking on the role of the "stations janitor". Sean reluctantly joined the fire brigade as an assistant when his cousin showed interest, but was later promoted to doing it full time. Sean, unlike Ethan and Xavier, is portrayed to be a massive coward, paranoid, having almost no authority of his own, and is incredibly stupid.[44] However, Sean is still quick to criticize others when he wants to, and tends to contradict himself a lot.
- Alexander Williams: He is Ethan's younger stepbrother, and followed him into the fire brigade as a junior firefighter with dusty tan skin, red hair with a shaggy black front and multiple ash and burn marks over his skin. Alexander is shown to be narcissistic, self centered, and his ego is easily hurt, all the while being self loathing and insecure.[44] Alexander is the only character to have made more appearances on the creators main channel than the actual series so far, and was confirmed to be his creator's favorite character.[46]
- Ludolf Kover: The brave yet somewhat idiotic commander of the Barrkon Fire Brigade, who is slow to recognize threats as they appear, but quicker to act. Despite being the oldest of the characters and much more experienced in defense and rescues[47], Ludolf is rather incompetent when it comes to serious social issues, and struggles with when and how he should use his authority. As a result, he failed to protect his fellow firefighters from Ethan Williams' spiral.[44]
- Zoey Myér: Zoey is Sean's wife, and is the only woman in the fire brigade, having dark skin and long black hair with a pink fade. Zoey is the station's personal mechanic, should anything ranging from firetrucks to leaky pipes get damaged, however, Zoey is said to be rather unfit for her role, as she frequently crashes station vehicles, and she is much better with small lightweight vehicles. Zoey is portrayed as sassy, hyper and energetic, a massive contrast to most of her team. She is also Alexanders closest friend.[44]
- Martino Ridge: Commonly addressed as Micah, is the younger cousin of Zoey, and is a somewhat skilled helicopter pilot who fills in for absences at the Barrkon Fire Brigade. Micah was one of few who tried to deter Xavier from "finding answers" out of fear for his safety,[48] and is much more alert to potential dangers than Ludolf is, all the while finding amusement in joking about putting others in harms way.[44]
- Florence Williams: Florence, or as she prefers to be called Florie, is a paramedic and is Ethan's wife, a smaller woman with mixed skin and light brown hair. She is shown to be soft, kindhearted, and motherly to her patients, as well as a means of keeping Ethan grounded.[49] Florie is the only character to have appeared and spoke in almost every episode in the series so far. She is said by her creator to be the most morally and mentally stable, and is described as "the only one of them that isn't half insane and probably on something".[44]
- Rusty the Dog: as the name suggests, he is a dog, a grey American Akita specifically, and is owned by the Williams family. He serves mainly as a comic relief character, he primarily assists the fire brigade, and likes to wear matching socks and a helmet similar to the firefighters. He also assists neighboring emergency services in their duties, his cute, fluffy looks hiding the fact that he has some rather unusual interior organs.[44].
Controversies[]
Mockery of Ethans father[]
Ethan had many situations, most of which still ongoing via TEE4C to this day, about people under comments and in videos disrespecting Ethan's late father. People, often being grown adults, were telling him his dad deserved it, that his father is rotting in hell, and going as far as to make up a fake rumor that Ethan's dad took his own life because he didn't want Ethan, just so they could pin the blame onto him. They'd even go to the extent to name their entire accounts 'Ethan's dad deserved it', and much more heinous acts such as impersonating his dead father and claiming to be "back for revenge". The real reason behind the passing of Ethan's father was never revealed to the public, but what was revealed to the public via TEE4C is that Ethan had been dealing with such rumors and manipulation all his life. This mixed with his dissociative amnesia helped fuel Ethan's belief that his father did in fact commit suicide, although that is not known for sure.

As of late September 2024, the disrespect towards Ethan's deceased father and the manipulation has drastically worsened. Ethan's fathers so called suicide is used as his opponents "main weapon of choice" to bring Ethan down, alongside making written and drawn CSAM of his in-real-life persona engaging in non-consensual acts with what is depicted to be his late father[50]—by Wixtener and Aiko most notably.
Using Ableist slur[]
Due to his frequent use of the R slur, and sometimes making jokes out of autism, Ethan had been accused of ableism in early 2022 initially by an enemy later turned ally in 2024. Ethan still continues to use the R slur on a frequent basis, and often makes jokes out of mental illness in his rants and other forms of media, much of this is said to be a means of coping with existing mental struggles. He has also made jokes about other slurs, but has never outright said or condoned them. However he later contradicts these jokes in "Australia's Under 16s Social Media Ban (And why it sucks)..", being among the first to raise concerns about the titular ban's mental health impacts on youth.[51]
Homophobia[]
As shown in a certain segment of TEE4C, Ethan developed unwanted hateful thoughts against the LGBTQ as a response to the trauma of things that were shown in the document as well as numerous other factors, but it was primarily due to the cyberbullies themselves using their LGBTQ identities as a shield from the repercussions of their reprehensible actions towards Ethan,[52] all the while queerwashing him and his creative works in sexual or otherwise defaming ways when Ethan made it clear that this made him uncomfortable and that he did not consent to such content being made of him or his work.[53] Ethan would take to YouTube, asking for advice from his audience of predominantly LGBTQ people, and acknowledged from the start of his initial post venting about this that his homophobic tendencies were harmful and immoral.
r/YouTubeDrama would pick up on this, and critcized Ethan for his homophobia while refusing to acknowledge the cyberbullying he faced.[52] Ethan ended his hiatus and released the video "r/YoutubeDrama, this is terrible..", as the victim blaming and demonization was getting severe.[52] Ethan would later become more openly homophobic, and would make depictions of Ethan Williams burning the Progressive Pride flag.
Counter-harassment[]
Ethan is known for his refusal (and incapability)[54] to forgive others. He often likes to berate his ex-cyberbullies on his community posts or in comments for their past actions, no matter the severity.[note 7] Sometimes, he would go to the extent of making threats to physically endanger the people who hurt him, as he believes "They aren't sorry until they get hurt". He has also stated he doesn't believe in people changing for the better in archived community posts. It's clear Ethan does not like the idea of forgiveness, letting his enemies live their actions down or the idea of those who have wronged him being able to change. However, Ethan has also shown remorse for his behavior at times, and a desire to not be so hateful.[54]

Ethan tends to use his counter-harassment of others as a way of coping with his feelings towards them, as by his own words, he sees no other way to handle his feelings, or any way to cope that is not harmful to himself or someone around him.[55]A few primary examples of this are when:
- Ethan had a feud with fellow YouTuber Evie, who mocked him in the earlier days of his channel. Evie stopped upon finding out about Ethans first public attempt on his own life. In many now deleted posts from 2023, Ethan ridicules Evie for her past treatment of him and her ties with other people who hurt him, even after she stopped her behavior and cut ties from the other aggressors, but did not garner much response from her.[56]
- Ethan relentlessly verbally harassed Sinjin-Kai B, who was responsible for the r/YouTubeDrama situation. Ethan could not go out and individually harass the many other Reddit users who mocked him, so he targeted Sinjin-Kai for months following the situation as they were the one initially making the posts about Ethan to the subreddit.
- Ethan emotionally lashed out on a group of users on Discord, notably one named Raiden, after his friend reported that they were downplaying the severity of his situation and were "talking shit" about it in Discord servers. Ethan was scolded by his friends for the way he reacted to being rightfully hurt by the actions of these Discord users. He was the first to apologize privately upon being pressed to by peers, this was accepted, and he was later given an apology, but Ethan immediately disregarded it and retracted his own out of resentment.[57]
Ethan has shown next to no remorse for his hate towards these people, but has acknowledged why it was wrong for him to verbally harass them.[58]
Suicide attempts[]
In many of Ethans newer posts on YouTube, Instagram and community posts, Ethan shows his anger is weighing down on him and slowly turning into a feeling of hopelessness in some videos he posted, such as "FINAL MASQUERADE" (titled after and uses a snippet of the song of the same name[59]), and "The solution", which the so called solution is a depiction of Ethan Williams, torso torn open, slowly bleeding to death on the ground with blue coloured blood. There is more text in the descriptions of these videos, such as:
- Ethan pleading metaphorically for or somebody to "put him out of his misery" in "I'm tired", and says that killing him would be "the most humane thing somebody can do for him at this point in time".
- In "last resort to get help", Ethan warns his viewers about the consequences of ignoring the danger around him, and how he is trying to hold on just so that there will not be a "next victim" of what he is facing at the hands of the people who hurt him.
- "FINAL MASQUERADE" shows Ethan talking about how "it was a losing battle from the start".[60]
- Even in some Instagram posts, Ethan says that he "tried to warn [his viewers]".[61]
There are many more examples of this in a lot of Ethans content. All of this behavior is nothing new for Ethan, as he has publicly made attempts on his own life well before the first exposure to the true extent of his trauma through TEE4C. Dating back to 2022 when he was 13, Ethan made his first public attempt on his life, mentioning in a now deleted video that he would try to end his life by using a sharp object to slice his throat during a panic attack caused by bullying in the earlier days of TEE4C,[citation needed] and was met with ridicule from the community and mocking of his failed attempt. Not much else can be found of this video as it has been lost to time. Later down the line, Ethan would attempt an overdosage under the same circumstances, but was met with more comfort than before.[62] As of now, Ethan has stopped posting such videos, and started focusing on trying to get his regular YouTube schedule back in order,[63] but it's not far off to assume that Ethan can (and will) act violently again in the future, either harming himself or someone else.
Eth4n explains in "Hi, I'm EVILETH4N" that he views his anger as his "only real defining trait", and shares how if he doesn't feel anger, this leads to extreme emotional pain, amplified by takotsubo syndrome, and therefore relies on his anger to keep himself grounded, no matter how tired it makes him feel, which more than likely fuels his disturbing behavior.[39]

In a specific part of TEE4C; "Termination", which has its own sub-document called "Parting words", Ethan drops many more disturbing lines in many paragraphs of what was initially going to be a suicide note from when he was 14.[64] The entirety of Parting words was a long discussion of Ethans mental health issues, which also confirms many more things about his personal life. This sub-document details many contradicting yet connected feelings relating back to pain, trauma and suicide, explicitly addresses the fact that he is "a legitimate danger to not only [himself], but everyone around me if I am provoked," as well as describing his younger self in third person, and even as a completely different person at certain points. Parting words is concluded with the line "Thank you, and fuck off."
Trivia[]
- Ethans favorite hobby is cooking, albeit self admittedly, and according to peers, not good at it at all. He also enjoys playing with tools he finds in his garage.[65]
- Ethan has trypanophobia, and hates needles, so much so that he cannot be in the presence of a needle without getting an upset stomach.[66]
- As per his "infamous quotes", Ethan has a keen interest in firearms, heavy weaponry and machinery. He also enjoys offroad driving, which he has attempted before.[67] Ethan once tried to pull down a tree using a car.[68][39]
- Ethan considers his ability to fry scream as his biggest flex.[39]
- His favorite childhood show was Fireman Sam, which he still enjoys to this day, but he dislikes anything that takes place following Heroes of the Storm, as it is "ruined and unwatchable", and Ethan even made a video on it.[69][70] His favorite character was Elvis Cridlington. Another one of his favorite shows was Octonauts.[71]
- Hyenas are his favorite animals.[72]
- Ethan mentioned on his Instagram QnA that he believes in Protestantism Christianity.[73]
- He is politically right wing,[2][15] and seems interested in politics around the world. Ethan has made jokes and mocking remarks about the political left, but also is not hesitant to call out the extremism of both sides, which he has expressed disdain for.[15] He also criticized Trump for delaying release of the Epstein Files.[74]
- Ethan is multilingual. He can speak Italian, Russian, and English, but not fluently. He is shown briefly speaking Italian in some of his videos,[75] and in some early videos of the SHADYD3MOS-0 series, the Williams brothers are shown speaking in Russian. Ethan also implied on an old shared account that he can speak Dutch.
- Ethan loves nu metal. His favorite songs are Faint and Figure.09 by Linkin Park, specifically the demo versions of the two songs from Linkin Park's Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition, which is his favorite album.[26][76] Ethan seems rather obsessed with Faint, dedicating an entire Spotify playlist to demo and live versions of the song, along with the different versions of Figure.09, three versions of A6, and Rhinoceros (2002 Demo). He is also is an avid fan of rock'n'roll and 80s music.[77][78]
- Ethan tends to associate the song Nobody's Listening by Linkin Park and Dark Thoughts by The Funeral Portrait with his own experiences, among many other songs.[79]
- Ethans favorite bands other than Linkin Park are Fear Factory, Slipknot, The Groundbreaking Project, Good Charlotte, The Funeral Portrait, and many other similar bands.[80]
- Ethan dislikes YouTube Shorts, and scrutinizes it in many of his older videos due to its reputation and use by other creators.[81] He also dislikes TikTok and other forms of short form content, but excuses Instagram reels since their offensive nature entertains him.
