Channel 13, or El Trece is an Argentine TV channel, located in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. It is owned by Grupo Clarín.
History[]
Channel 13 was founded in 1960 and began broadcasting on October 1, 1960 at 8:30 p.m. The channel was tendered to the Rio de la Plata SA TV company, founded by the Cuban businessman Goar Mestre and the US network CBS. In the mid-1960s, Editorial Atlántida and Mestre's wife bought the shares of the channel. Since then, Channel 13 began to compete strongly with the other two open private channels of the city of Buenos Aires, Channel 9 and Telefe (also known as Channel 11), which had undergone a similar process. In those years there were great successes on Argentine television, with channel 13 broadcasting Seeing Biondi ("Seeing Biondi") comedy show focused on Pepe Biondi's characters, The Falcón Family, starring Pedro Quartucci, and comedy sketch as Telecataplum, with an innovative group of Uruguayan comedians that includes Ricardo Espalter, Enrique Almada and Gabriela Acher, among others

- In 1974, Isabel Perón's government nationalized the station along with two other private channels in Buenos Aires (Channel 9 and Telefe), to carry out a European-style media policy.
- After 15 years as a government station, in December 1989, Artear, a majority-owned company of Graphic Arts Editorial Argentino SA (AGEA), editor of the Clarín Newspaper and part of its multimedia conglomerate, officially assumed the administration of the station.
- Since then, the channel is positioned as the second in the TV ratings in Buenos Aires, competing against Telefe. In the 90s, they obtained excellent qualifications, thanks to the political comedy programs Tato Bores, cultural programs and The Adventure of Man, the fictions The Golden Rocket Band, Roller Coaster, Gasoleros, the series Champions of life and Poliladron .
- Since 1996, the channel operates with Pol-ka Producciones, owned by the American actor and producer, Adrian Suar, who in 2002 became the channel's program manager.
- In 2000, the commercial name of Channel 13, becomes Channel Thirteen, opens the slogan La Tele del 2000 (replacing La Tele.) And is a change of style of the logo, with new graphics and identification. In 2001, he acquired the slogan You are at home.
- In 2002, the network began a new trend, changing the package of aesthetic and institutional graphics every year.
- In the last decade, the channel remained in second place, with the exception of 2005 due to the high rating that Marcelo Tinelli received on Channel 9. The most successful of the first half of the decade were the sitcoms The soda seller My life and my love are the soap operas I am a gypsy, Floricienta, Padre Courage, the series My guilty of love and the CQC news and comedy show.
