History[]
19th century[]
On 26 October 1863, The Football Association was established.[1]
Before the first international match in 1872, The Football Association had organised 5 unofficial football matches between England and Scotland.[2] The first match resulted in a 1–1 draw.[3]
On 30 November 1872, the first international match between England and Scotland was held in Hamilton Crescent, which resulted in a 0–0 draw.[4]
On 8 March 1873, England would win its first football match, defeating Scotland 4–2.[5]
On 7 March 1874, England would lose its first football match, being defeated by Scotland 2–1.[6]
England would later on face Wales and Ireland, the 2 other Home Nations. The first England v. Wales match happened on 18 January 1879, with England winning 2–1.[7] The first England v. Ireland match happened on 18 February 1882, with England winning 13–0.[8] The match would become England's biggest victory to date.[9]
20th century[]
The England national football team would join FIFA in 1906.[10]
On 6 June 1908, England would play its first match other than the 3 Home Nations, facing Austria, which England won 6–1.[11]
On 28 April 1923, Wembley Stadium was opened, and it became their home ground.[12]
In 1928, England announced its departure from FIFA due to their straining relations, before later joining in 1946.[13]
On 21 September 1949, Ireland defeated England 2–0 in Goodison Park, making their first loss in home soil.[14]
England would make their FIFA World Cup debut in 1950, with the United States defeating them 1–0.[15]
On 23 May 1954, Hungary defeated England 7–1, making their largest defeat to date.[16] The same year, England entered the knockout stage for the first time, getting defeated by Uruguay 4–2 in the quarter-finals.[17]
England would host the 1966 FIFA World Cup, and would end up winning the competition, defeating West Germany 4–2 in the finals.[18] This resulted in England automatically qualifying for the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.[19]
At the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, England lost to Argentina 2–1 in the quarter-finals, which the game is infamous for Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" goal.[20]
England would host the 1996 UEFA Euros.[21]
21st century[]
On 14 November 2019, England played their 1000th international match, defeating Montenegro 7–0 at Wembley in a Euro 2020 qualifying match.[22]
England, along with 10 other countries, hosted the 2020 UEFA Euros.[23] For the first time since 1966, England had reached the finals of a major tournament.[24] England would end up losing the final to Italy on penalties.[25]
4 years later, England would end up going to the finals at the 2024 UEFA Euros, losing to Spain 2–1.[26]
The 2028 Euros will be held in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.[27]

On 10 April 2006, England would create their YouTube channel, and would upload their first video on April 14, 2010.[28]
