The France national football team (French: Équipe de France de football) represents France in men's international football.
History[]
The France national football team was established in 1904,[1] and played its first official international match against Belgium in Brussels, resulting in a 3-3 draw.[2]
In July 1930, France participated in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in Uruguay, defeating Mexico 4-1,[3] with Lucien Laurent scoring the first goal in World Cup history.[4]
In 1960, France hosted the inaugural UEFA European Football Championship.[5]
France won their first major international honor at Euro 1984, hosting the event and defeating Spain 2-0.[6]
France hosted the 1998 World Cup, becoming the seventh nation to win the tournament, defeating Brazil 3–0 in the final.[7]
France won Euro 2000,[8] becoming the second team in history to win both the World Cup and European Championship, following Germany's 1972[9] and 1980 victories.[10]
France qualified as hosts for Euro 2016,[11] advancing to the knockout stages after defeating the Republic of Ireland and Iceland.[12] France suffered a 1–0 defeat in the final against Portugal.[13]
On July 15, 2018, France secured their second World Cup win by defeating Croatia in the final 4-2.[14]
France won the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League, defeating Spain 2–1 in the final, after advancing to the final tournament from Portugal's initial group, marking their first title.[15]

- On April 11, 2015, the crowd noise at Stade de France, France's national stadium, reached 109 decibels during the 2015 Coupe de la Ligue Final, setting a world record for the noisiest stadium during a final football tournament match.[16]
- France has football rivalries with Belgium,[17] England,[18] Germany,[19] Italy,[20] Portugal,[21] and Spain,[22] with a bitter rivalry with Argentina intensifying in the early 2020s.[23]
