The Morocco national football team (Arabic: المنتخب المغربي لكرة القدم) represents Morocco in men's international football.
History[]
20th century[]
Morocco participated in its first official international game at the 1957 Arab Games in Beirut, but drew 3-3 to Iraq.[1]
In 1961, Morocco won the Pan-Arab Games football tournament, winning all five matches, including their largest-ever victory against Saudi Arabia 13-1.[2]
Morocco won the 1976 African Cup of Nations with a 1-1 draw, becoming the first and only cup in its history.[3]
Morocco made history as the first African and Arab national team to advance from the first round of the 1986 FIFA World Cup.[4]
21st century[]
The team qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup by winning the third round of CAF qualifiers. Morocco became the first African and Arab team to qualify for the semi-finals after winning against Portugal 1–0.[5]
The team suffered a 2–0 loss to France in the semi-finals and a 2–1 loss to Croatia in the third place play-off, resulting in their World Cup campaign ending in fourth place.[6]
Future[]
Morocco, Portugal, and Spain will be the host nations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.[7]
