Futbol Club Andorra is a professional football club based in Andorra la Vella, Andorra, that currently competes in Primera Federación – Group 1, in the Spanish league system.[citation needed]
History[]
The club was founded on October 15, 1942,[1] and was the first football club to be founded in Andorra. FC Andorra made its Segunda Regional debut in 1963-64, finishing in 11th place.[2] After several years in regional categories, the Andorran club climbed to Segunda División B in 1981, where they remained for 17 years. FC Andorra was in close proximity to achieving promotion to Segunda División in the 1988–89 and 1989–90 seasons.[citation needed]
FC Andorra's most significant achievement was winning the 1994 Copa Catalunya, defeating FC Barcelona in the semi-finals and RCD Espanyol in the final, with no goals scored.[3]
The team was relegated to Tercera División at the end of the 1997-98 season. In 2021, the team qualified for Segunda División promotion play-offs, but was eliminated in the first round by Real Sociedad B.[4]
The team achieved their first promotion to the Segunda División on May 21, 2022, after defeating relegated UCAM Murcia 1–0 at home.[5] The team was relegated to the third division on May 26, 2024, after a two-year stint in the second division, following a 0-3 loss against Real Oviedo.[citation needed]
Stadium[]
FC Andorra played its matches at Camp d’Esports de les Valls in Andorra la Vella before moving to Estadi Comunal d'Aixovall in 1983. After renovations in 1999, the stadium accommodated 1,000 spectators.[6] In 2015, the club relocated to the smaller Centre d'Entrenament de la FAF in Andorra la Vella.[citation needed]
On May 8, 2022, a record 3,631 fans attended the team's home match against Albacete Balompié at Estadi Nacional.[7]
