Yubi! Yubi!

―her greeting

Korone Inugami (戌神ころね) (born October 1 [age 92 (in dog years) or 20 (in human years)]) is a Japanese VTuber affiliated with Hololive, as a member of a subgroup Hololive Gamers (ホロライブゲーマーズ) along with Okayu Nekomata, Fubuki Shirakami and Mio Ookami.

Content[]

She first joined YouTube in March 25, 2019 and gained a massive following of Japanese and overseas viewers alike and over 1 million subscribers. Korone-Chan streams on a regular basis gaining over 100 thousand views per stream. Her first videos were of her playing Minecraft. Her streams often consist of gaming, art and chatting.

Her earliest streams were of a different nature from her modern ones, as she was originally more shy, reserved and lacked confidence, though now she is more outgoing. She also had an unusual accent, which according to her came from a combination of her grandmother's Kansai dialect and a to-be-revealed dialect of her parents, but has been working on trying to make her accent sound more like a standard Japanese one. She also later tended to drop her kind and sunny exterior when she was angry, such as one incident where she defenestrated Polka after dropping something of Okayu's. She also doesn't hesistate to get violent now, with her weapon of choice in gaming often being a chainsaw. Another running gag is her love for gacha and gambling.

She has also played 60 Seconds, Sonic Adventure, Dead by Daylight, Tetris, Monster Rancher 2, Bishi Bashi Special 2, Mario Kart 8, Cadence of Hyrule, Speaking Simulator, Jailbreak Simulator, Heavy Rain, Doom64, Subnautica, APEX Legends, Rat Simulator, lb, ARK, Home Sweet Home, Fall Guys, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Limbo, Kirby 64:The Crystal Shards, Crash Bandicoot, Hide & Shriek, Among Us, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Cake Bash, Pokemon Snap, Die Hard Arcade, Bulb boy, Papers, please, A Way Out, Splatoon 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Planet Coaster, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Rockman, Dragon Quest, Cuphead, Resident Evil Village, Final Fantasy IX, Thief Simulator, Mother 2 and SaGa Front. Korone has a reputation of clearing the most difficult of games such as Atlantis no Nazo and the famicom version of Dragon's Lair, though she used a cheat code in the latter but later beat it fairly.

She has covered a number of songs such as Love Trial and ハロハロナリヤンス音頭, with her first cover being Shiny Smily Story.[1][2][3] On the 13th of April, 2021, Korone released her own original song. She also reacts to films like the A24 horror movie Midsommar.

Collaborations[]

Korone appeared in Okayu's first chatting stream[4]. Korone and Okayu are quite close and have featured each other in their streams quite frequently, and were close friends prior to joining hololive. Okayu has said that Korone is like a sister to her and she helped her with her grandmother after she was suffering from declining health. She has also admitted that when she gets the urge to kiss someone she kisses Korone.

Most of her streams feature Okayu but she has played Phasmophobia with Ayunda Risu. When Korone and Calli collaborated to play Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Kiara got jealous. Noel has played Quest Rooms and Garctic Phone with Marine, Korone and Lamy, and her stream of APEX Legends also featured Korone and Marine[5][6][7]. Korone was also in one of Towa's "Draw and Guess" streams.

She loves baseball and attends the games with Kanata Amane.

In one stream, Korone played Garctic Phone with Laplus, Noel, Marine, Okayu, Towa and Lui[8]

Design[]

Korone's illustrator is Fukahire.[9] She shares her illustrator with Civia of Hololive China, and Monaka, Sato Myumyu and Shirae Utakata of Avatar 2.0. She is 5'1. Sabaku[10] created her furball form.

Korone's current rigger is rariemonn[11] and her alternative riggers have included MegaJujube[12] and FELUCCA[13].

Her mascot is called Hosoinu.

Korone Virus incident[]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the YouTube AI began automatically placing the "Get the latest information from the CDC about COVID-19" tab on all of Korone's videos, regardless of their topic or context such as edited and translated clips from her streams uploaded by other YouTubers. This is likely due to a flaw in the YouTube's AI resulting from Korone's name being similar to the spelling of "Corona" in several different languages such as Serbian, Hungarian, Swedish, Norweigan, Tajik, Latvian, Lithuanian, Kurdish, Haitian Creole, Malay, Maori, Amharic and Bulgarian. The AI was also controversial for randomly ending/deleting streams of many VTubers (even without violation of YouTube's Community Guidelines). Because of the "Korone Virus" incident, some Koronesuki have started to adopt it into their usernames as a means to support Korone.

According to some, the incident could be compared to the Scunthorpe problem, which unintentionally blocks certain websites, content, and emails due to a certain string containing obscene or unacceptable words, or in some cases mentioning COVID-19. In this case it didn't block Korone's videos.

In-jokes/memes[]

  • Japanese fans donated 563 yen because it is a pun on her name (read as "Koro-san"), though Korone didn't realize this until 2 years after her debut.[14]
  • Every single quote of hers, no matter how insignificant it is, has become memed, partially due to the execution and partially due to her mangled attempts at English.
  • Her debut stream listed her height as 156m, instead of 156cm. This has led to jokes that she is a giantess.[15]
  • Korone bonking her Koronesuki.
  • During the credit-scroll of Korone's stream of Blasphemous, the topic of conversation turned to the game boss Expósito, which Korone pronounced as "X-Potato" after running through Google Translate; now "X-Potato" has become another name for the Koronesuki.[16]
  • One of her hobbies is boxing. Because of this, Koronesuki joke that if you get on her bad side, you're doomed.
  • Korone once accidentally revealed that she had searched for methods of execution and torture on her mobile web browser history. Because of this some call her a psychopath.
  • Korone and Okayu being "girlfriends", and Ayunda being their child. Korone has actually admitted to kissing Okayu before but thinks it is platonic.[17]
  • Once Korone tried to teach her overseas fans Japanese, and tried to explain how "gyoi" meant "Yes my lord/As you wish", but pronounced "wish" as "fish". Because of this, her chat began spamming fish and "Yes My Doggo" (YMD) in the chat.[18]
  • Korone reads out the names of anyone who superchats her, because of this user "Eating Mike Tyson's Ass" superchats her a lot just to get her to say his name. He does this with other talents but mostly her, and Korone mangles the pronouncation every time.[19]
  • Korone saying the phrase "EEKUM BOKUM" became the subject of an animation by YouTuber 2ManySnacks. Korone repeats the phrase whenever she plays Banjo-Kazooie.[20]
  • Whenever Korone plays any games, the developers/staff who worked on the game tend to notice her and give her shoutouts.
  • Korone once "married" her chat and then asked them to buy her a new fridge because her old one broke, and voice actor Yuki Ono, a famed Koronesuki, maxed out a superchat where he offered to buy her one as an apology for "cheating" on her (he watched a male streamer). This was rejected as Korone already bought one.

Partnerships[]

The DOOM Eternal DLC "The Ancient Gods: Part 1" had an easter egg referencing Korone - if one pressed the dedicated Chainsaw button four times while on the rune slot screen would make a "DOOG Eternal" logo pop-up, a reference to Korone's frequent use of the Chainsaw while playing Doom 64 and Doom 2016. This reference was short lived as Cover corp would file a legal complaint about it and it was quickly removed[21].

Korone appeared in Molly Online Crane Game, Toreba, Rakugai Kingdom and Neptunia Virtual Stars.[22][23][24]

The Kyocera Dome Osaka stadium, on 13 August 2021, scheduled a collaboration between 12 Hololive idols including Korone, who were to represent the SoftBank HAWKS and collaborate with six professional Japanese baseball teams from the Pacific League, two hololive members per team. They dubbed this day "Hololive day" and released exclusive merchandise to commemorate it.

On November 7, 2021, Korone was the subject of her own game Evil Korone, which is a spinoff episode of Tsugu No Hi.[25]

The official Sonic the Hedgehog Japan account tweeted in June 2022 that Korone was to be an ambassador for the Sonic franchise.[26]. It was later announced that Korone would be a voice actress for the Japanese dub of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)[27].

Personal life[]

She is a graduate of Tokyo U. Specifically, she holds a degree in Philosophy.[28][29]

Trivia[]

  • She is the second Hololive VTuber to reach a million subscribers after Gura, as of November 1, 2020.
  • She loves retro games.
  • Her native tongue is Japanese, but when streaming she sometimes mixes in English, Chinese and Spanish, sometimes challenging herself to do non-Japanese speaking streams. She has an English tutor, but her pronouncation is still mangled.[30][31]
  • Coco once implied that her sleep schedule is 2-3 hours a day.
  • She also has several baseball games on her phone.
  • She is terrible at tongue twisters. Once she was challenged to end her stream if she failed to do one, and the stream ended before a minute.[32]
  • She is a fan of Western culture, and on several occasions has alluded to being a fan of South Park, Steven Spielberg movies (especially Jurassic Park), Phineas & Ferb, Gravity Falls, the music of Michael Jackson, and SpongeBob SquarePants.[33][34] Her search history once showed she googled Pentatonix and The Rocky Horror Show. Like Fubuki, she is a fan of Happy Tree Friends. She has also mentioned her favorite move being The Green Mile.
  • Korone finds red superchats without text "scary" as they remind her of police lights flashing. She is also scared of worms, mosquitos and spiders. However she isn't scared of horror games and movies and even has a guro fetish. She has also referred to Venom from Spiderman (2000), the Killers from Dead by Daylight, the demons from DOOM (2016) and the monsters from Resident Evil 4 as "cute".
  • Korone's Wingull in Pokemon is named Prius.[35]
    • Her Fidough is named Korone, after herself.[36]
  • She has a fear of insects.[37]
  • She is a fan of the "doge" meme.[38]
