Don't Hug Me .I'm Scared (or simply DHMIS) is an English YouTube channel and TV series created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling that showcases a musical fantasy horror series that started on July 29, 2011. The series originally uploaded six episodes from 2011 to 2016, but beginning in September 2022, new episodes released on All 4 and Channel 4.
Plot[]
Each episode revolves around Yellow Guy (and his father Roy), Red Guy and Duck meeting one or several anthropomorphic characters, who begin a musical number related to a basic concept of day-to-day life with an upbeat melody similar to that of a nursery rhyme. As each song progresses, it becomes apparent that its moral or message is nonsensical or self-contradicting, and that the "teacher" character has ulterior or sinister motives. The climax of each episode typically involves a shock element with use of graphic violence (commonly referenced as gore), and sometimes other coercive or warped themes.
Starting from episode four, each one of the characters become self aware and attempt to escape their predicament. However, this results in them getting killed or tortured, which excludes them from appearing in future episodes other than cameos.
